• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Textures not working

My textures are not showing on the models I create. I created with Sketchup/Blender convert to Collada, imported w/ textures to MCX, then converted the textures to BMP for FS9, when placed into scenery, it doesnt load the textures.

I am not sure why, as FS2002/FS8 and before, textures were simple. Any guidance is appreciated.

Search feature is funky

Hello,...

So,.. it's for FS9,.. how was the model placed in FS9? and where did you place the textures of the model?

Are you using DXTBMP as your choice when converting the textures? The BMP choice will not show up in FS.

Hope this helps,

so DXTBMP is the texture to use. Good to know, and I should have tried that, because usually I try every option available until it works :)

BMP's were used for every other version of FS until FS9. MICROSOFT doesnt want us to play with their stuff I supposed. *cough: MSFLIGHT :cough*
:whiteflag

And the textures are in the active texture folder that houses the airport and associated BGL files and MDL files.

Actually the BMP choice converts the textures to 24 bit BMP files, which no FS version can read. I warned Arno about this potential support problem, but he thought it would be OK. Now I end up supporting it... :)

FS2002, FS2k, FS98 and FS95 scenery and aircraft paints I used to use BMP files and it always worked no issues. Maybe my FS versions were broken if its not supposed to work with any of them.
Ill do it with DXTBMP later on. Thanks for the assistance.

8 bit bmp files worked, 16 bit also. But 24 bit has never worked.

placed the model bgl in the scenery subfolder of airport name. textures in texture folder. converted to bmp 16bit and tried dxtbmp still not working.
models show, just naked.
bgl file export from mcx
Any ideas?

Hi,

Just to be sure, you converted your sketchup model with modelconverterx. Did you use the mass texture editor to convert the textures? And if so, did you select dxtbmp as format in that editor?

That all sounds ok. Maybe you can send me a sample object so I can check what is going on.

how do i get it to you?
i see some people attach here, but im thinking have to use free hosting site for that.
otherwise email?

Depends how big it is I guess. Attach it here is fine, but I can also give you my email. I'll pm it to you.

Thanks, I'll check it.

Thanks. So far I have 3 models that show in sim, but no textures.

I think it might be a GUID related issue, but Im not sure how the GUID links to the textures.

I have tried DDS, BMP, DXTBMP and different resolutions available in MCX, and it just isnt working. I know its a simple step I am missing.

I have a total of 8 models finished, ready for conversion from collada, but am holding off until I get this texture thing fixed.

Hi,

From the MDL file I see nothing weird, it references the textures with BMP extension correctly. So I think the problem must be in the texture files. Can you also send me the textures you used for this building?

Ok, when I get home I will get that up here for you. 6 hours from now.

I think its the textures not in the correct size, but Ill load here for confirmation.
