• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Textures

Having previously built bits for FSX and Xplane, I'm keen to start again for fs2020. My weapon of choice is Blender which I am comfortable with but my question relates to textures. I am going to start on my local airfield first (currently has a hanger more suited to the Hindenburg) I always use photos taken at the airfield for the textures and create texture maps from those. I've also used Materialize to create the various other maps, Normal, Ao etc. I've had a read through various bits but I can't see where it says what maps are used? I know with XPlane I had to blend AO on to the Diffuse map as so far as I was aware that was the only way to get AO to show. Can someone point me to a tutorial please.

Thanks

Paul

I would suggest looking at the examples projects provided on the SDK but they're only for 3Ds Max. Also I strongly susggest using Substance painter to make the PBR textures. There's a preset for it somewhere on this forum.

Hi,

From what I have seen there is one texture that contains the metallic channel, roughness channel and the AO channel. The SDK has the information on this.

Hi, I thought I could use this thread as well. Tried making a PBR texture yesterday with Materializer and when loaded in the sim I get this shiny problem.
Does anyone have a clue on what to change in order to get it less shiny?

Hello...

Materialize can be "trial and error" in what looks good or right. Also, can be a challenge in what is to be metallic and what isn't within the same texture sheet. It's either one or the other, unfortunately. Though using the color picker option I believe corrects that. It's been a while since I have used Materialize.
