Texturing With Blender Compaired to 3DS Max

Hi Everyone!

I am working on texturing my Ultralight and I want to do a good job texturing it for FSX. I have made my textures Diffused, specular, and bump and everything looks great in Blender. But when I export my model and look at it in FSX it looks dark. Specular and bump maps are not working in FSX.

When I used 3DS Max I had no problem getting my textures to work in FSX. But Blender does not have the same methods for applying your texture maps. The image below is how I am used to applying textures to a material.

Now in Blender it is a little different. In Blender you have to create a new texture for each process that you want to add to a material. Below two images showing what I mean. As you can see below by the blue highlighted area, I have my specular map selected. Image 2 shows how you setup the influence that the map will set.

As you can see in image 1 the cube that I have textured looks good, all of the texture maps are working. I have made all of my .dds files for each texture and I have placed them in my textures folder for my aircraft. But in FSX the cube is dark, you can see the diffused texture, but the specular and bump maps do not work.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong!

Thank you, Kris:)

Hi Kris my friend :)

Which version of the tool set are you using? The checkbox for specular texture has changed from 0.7.04 to 0.8.1. For pre 0.8 versions, you should tick the "Color" checkbox.
And for the bump map, FSX requires a little surgery on the normal map before you get the desired results in the sim. I wrote a wiki article some time ago about FSX and normal maps. Click here.

Hope this helps... Stay well and

Cheers :)

Hi Mr. Felix!

I have found what my problem was, the plugins for my Gimp program was not working correctly. I re-installed the plugins for normal maps and .dds file formatting. And everything is working good now. I will read the part of the wiki that you stated in your post.

Thank you very much Mr. Felix! You are a very good Friend!!!!

Sincerely, Kris:)

Kpispy1001, could you look into http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/th...ht-of-textures-in-blender-and-3ds-max.434138/ and may be you give some answer about why in blender is not the same highlight as 3ds max. I try to understand is it blender impossibility or not. If yes, how to improve it in new release of blnder2fsx tool.

Hi Robix!

You asking this question actually was very good timing. I have been working on texturing my ultralight that I have been working on. And I have been testing procedures for getting the best normal map(bump map) and specular map results in FSX. I have found some very interesting results so far.

As soon as I complete my testing, I will make a video tutorial on how to get good results texturing with Blender for FSX.

Thanks, Kris:)

It wil be good. Could you tell something about which of settings need to do that increase of highlight of sun (in blender and fsx matterial propertis)?
