• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Thinking of getting back to airport developments.

Hi,
I used to work on projects since Fs2004 (20 years ago, how fast it is!). I worked on big airports since then, VTBS, WMKK, ZBAA. I enjoyed my work on FS so much. However, things getting more difficult to me as I am just a computer user. I have not much knowledge in any other programmming. When the scenery has problem with other add-on's in FS2004, FSX, P3D, it is really frustrating to solve those problems. So, I quited since the FS2020 came out.
But I do remember all my joy making airports and I wish I could come back. FS2024 may be a good time to do but I don't know if it is difficult and how to start a project. Could you recommend any videos or website for me to start making airports in FS2024. I wish I have a fresh restart since I almost forgot what I have done in the past....LOL.
Thanks for any comments.

Most airports can be fleshed out in ADE for 2020, or Patrick Germain's Airport 2 Project. But to enter a default airport to either of these is not possible from MSFS 2024. You have to have MSFS 2020, and use that as the basis for 2024. Not very helpful, I know. The Devmode of 2024 is made so that airports can be made directly in the sim. I'm not aware of any current tutorials for MSFS 2024. Flying Theston made a good YouTube tutorial series for 2020 that might be a good starting point. A few things have changed, and if you get stuck, asking here is a good solution. Federico Pinotti (@mamu) has made a good set of tutorials for 2020 and 2024: MSFS Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Tutorials

As for as models, 3dsMax and Blender are the usual tools, but ModelConverterX can convert Sketchup and old FSX or P3D models to the newer MSFS glTF format. Again, help will be here if you get stuck.

MSFS 2020 is huge in size, and needs a good internet connection to install and will be connected online when played. 2024 is a streamed game. It dynamically loads elements during game play or development. Good internet connection is needed. 16 Gb memory may work, but 32 Gb memory is best. A decent graphics card is needed for either 2020 or 2024.

Quite a few end-users are sticking with 2020. 2024 is still in the beta stage for the most part, but Asobo is working on stabilizing the game, and within 6 months, I think it will be much improved. It's quite playable now, but it needs work. MSFS DevSupport is the website for developers of 2020 and 2024. Go there and you can see the huge amount of work needed and being done to fix issues with the sim.
