• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Time to Retire

I don't think a lot of FS developers would be where they are now if it wasn't for your tools and knowledge, what you have contributed is invaluable and you will always be remembered in the community I'm sure of it.

Enjoy retirement, you have more than earned it!

Hi Tom

I am not handing it over to anyone else.

Hi Jon,

Your work has been nothing short of a godsend since Lee Swordy left the FS community and AFCAD became abandoned. Your tireless efforts in providing us with the same toolset through ADE have truly shaped Flight Simulator into what it is today.

I wanted to reach out to see if you might reconsider uploading the source code to GitHub. By doing so, we can ensure that the community continues to benefit from the knowledge and tools you have so generously provided. Many of us would be honored to contribute to your legacy, possibly even supporting your retirement through this initiative.

I'm currently in the process of handing over the source code for the photoscenery development tools I built for FSX/P3D, as my focus has shifted towards film production.

With the advent of World Hub, there is a possibility that ADE may become less relevant. However, it is disheartening when someone leaves our community and takes all their hard work and knowledge with them, forcing us to reinvent the wheel.

It has always puzzled me why freeware developers do not leave their work as open source for others to build upon. There is so much to gain and nothing to lose in doing so. I respectfully appeal to you to consider making ADE open source.

This message comes from a place of deep respect and admiration for all the years of dedication, effort, and love you have invested in ADE. Many of us would hate to see a new version of FS render the program unusable because the community cannot build fixes or add new functionality.

We all deeply respect and are indebted to you, and we fully support your decision and stand by you in your retirement.

Kindest Regards,

Dean

Thanks for your interest Dean. As things stand I am not releasing the code

Well the title says it all. I have been working on flight sim and especially ADE since around 2006. Now is the time to set aside these things. My private life with my family needs to take first place.

I want to thank everyone over the years who have used my software and contributed to it's development. There a long list of people - too long to list here but you know who you are.

As to the future the websites will stay up and I will still be around here primarily as an administrator of the forums but also as an occasional contributor to the posts and converstations

Meanwhile thanks again and I wish you all clear skies
Thank you for your contributions to this forum and to the Flight Sim World!. Best Regards from Argentina!.

Noooooooo!!!!
but, best wishes!!!! you are a really really (sorry my words are poor) anyway, you give me a huge solid shoulder so that i can stand on it and see the best view!!!!

I've been on a hiatus for a good bit of time and surprised to see your retirement. Thanks for all the hard work over the many years and best of luck.

Jon, I have not been around for some time now, but I still haunt this place. Just read this and your other post. Good luck to you sir!
