• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Tips on reducing shimmer and object flashing

Please accept my apologies if this has been asked before. I want some tricks on reducing shimmer (the sparkling effect) and an object slightly flashing.

What program do I need and how?

Shimmering object like an antenna.
Flashing object like a hangar.

I think this is related to your settings in FS. Things like anti aliasing and so on. There may be some settings in the FSX.cfg or FS9.cfg that will help as well as settings for your graphics card.

Perhaps someone else can provide a better answer.

Thanks.

I want to know how I can take an object that is blinking and fix it.

Sometimes shadows blink. Can I use Material Editor to fix this and how.

Hi,

What kind of objects are flickering? If it affects all objects it is most likely a settings of the graphics. But if it is one specific object it might be that there is some z-fighting. In that case it would be good to know what kind of object is giving this problem.

Arno,

It's just a part of the object.

It's a blinking/flashing effect unlike a sparkle effect. It's happening in an area of a terminal object.

The shimmers are occurring in lamp posts. I'm not sure if there a trick I can try just to reduce these little annoyances.

Is this terminal a custom 3d object? It could be the object has polygons that are on top of each other. Did you make it yourself?

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

No. These objects are part of the FlightZone KPDX for fs9. It was successfully ported over to FSX and all I'm trying to do is reduce some flashing on some objects, some shimmering poles, and I'm hoping to convert all the ground textures so that the comply with the FSX.

Unfortunately, some of the ground textures will not open, so there are 4 ground textures that I can't convert.

Since I have no idea on what program I would need to open the ground textures, I'm stuck with some empty ground at KPDX. The scenery looks excellent, with just a couple of issues.

Maybe in the future there will be a program that opens these ground files. Maybe there's a way to recreate the one that are not able to open?

sbuilder should work with imagetool.exe. worked for me. both are free.
Thanks! How did you do it?

I'd really appreciate some help. I have no clue of what to do. That's why I came here looking for assistance.

I'm extremely appreciative that there's such a community.

Do a forum search for reformatting textures. In the BLUE BAR top of this page near the end. There are a lot of post covering how to do it. :)
