• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Traffic Toolbox/explorer for Ships?

Is there something similar to the FSX Toolbox/explorer for viewing ship traffic like you can with aircraft? I don't mean real stuff but those that are in the traffic files. Explorer lists those ships but you can't actually view them can you!.
Thank you.

FSXGET links FSX and Google Earth to display Ai aircrafts, AI ships and your plane in real time.

I looked at FSGET but although it does show ships it's in Google earth in real time.
What I really wanted was, I suppose, Toolbox/explorer to show the ships that are listed instead of some other aircraft. Wonder why MS never finished that either!!
I also don't think AIRound is what I was thinking for,
but many thanks to both for your suggestions.

You said that "Explorer lists those ships but you can't actually view them can you", which made me think that you meant you wanted a custom camera view, as Traffic Explorer allows you to right click an entry and choose view.

To view non-aircraft AI in the Traffic Toolbox Traffic Explorer, you can uncheck the "Aircraft only" checkbox in the upper right part of the window.

To view non-aircraft AI in the Traffic Toolbox Traffic Map, press the A key (toggles showing only aircraft, the equivalent to the checkbox in the Traffic Explorer).

I don't think you can set the Traffic Explorer or Traffic Map to only show non-aircraft AI. You can see the Traffic Toolbox SDK documentation here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526965.aspx.

If you want to view the AI boat schedules, you can use the tool AI Boat Traffic Compiler by Lamont Clark (lc0277). (Despite the name, it also allows you to decompile traffic files.)

Yes, you've got my drift, but, and this is the problem, even if you uncheck 'aircraft only' and see the whole list of baggage carts, ships etc. right clicking on a ship and selecting view does not show you the ship but another AC (for some odd reason) that's why I said why didn't MS finish this bit.
Unless, of course, I've missed something out completely.
Has anyone actually seen a ship in a new view window by clicking on it? as you do with AI aircraft?
I'm aware of AIBTC and have used it a number of times to create my own shipping traffic. (and decompile others!) This is one of the reasons I would like this type of app. so I can test my ship traffic plans instead of searching out the seven seas looking for it in the sim.

To track and test my AI Ships, as I said, I use FSXGET. As I trace my ships route in Google Earth I see the moving position and the routes!

Well, then that's what my first post in this thread was about.

The tool AIRound would seem to have exactly that sort of ability. The description on the product page says that "This utility enables forward, fly by, spot and top-down views of other players’ aircraft and AI-controlled airplanes, ground vehicles and boats." The screenshot in the bottom center seems to back that claim up.

This sounds essentially like what you're asking (to see "a ship in a new view [...] as you do with AI aircraft").

What I added in my earlier post were links to a couple threads asking how to do the same thing, which turned out to be inconclusive. There's a post in one, which is where I found the suggestion for AIRound:

TrafficToolBox does that, for only for AI aircrafts, it allows you to "view" the aircraft in spot view...however for objects like ground vehicles or boats, its something different...there is a tool called AIRound that does exactly that.

Just an update.
I tried the demo of AIROUND and although it's got a lot more than I was looking for, it certainly does what I wanted so I bought it. Now to find all the features it offers. :)
Thanks for the pointers.

Hi - Inspired I also just installed it... Should have done that along time ago for checking my AI ships... But better late than never so thanks for bringing this up :)

And it was your ships package that inspired me to find something better for ships than Traffic toolbox. So a big 'Thank You' :)

I'd always hoped Tim Arnot would add AI ships to his 'Plan-G' but never happened -yet!

No chance, it seem be for Fsx sp2 (acceleration here), I can see some airplanes, but no ships.I Almost got it. :o, Anyway I have forgot RFN gauge, a great gauge. but it's for carriers only. but you can add any ship you want in the XML file, the ship have to have a hard surface if you want this work .

Acceleration=SP2+some extras, so basically it should work. Hopefully someone can help you with that, unfortunately my plate is too full to tinker with it. :(

Here a print screen of GoogleEarth interface displaying all AI ship's routes and moving position in my Halong scenery, with the help of FSXGET.

Sligthly off topic, but I look forward to see that scenery - it is an amazing area - I sent a freighter or two into Ha Long harbour in my Asian routes - hope they will not mess up and sink a little fishing boat.

There are also a lot of "new" islands in the bay, comparativly of the FSX default scenery.

I traced my islands in Google Earth so if your ship's route are also traced in GE there will be no grounding!
