• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Just a refresher please. I have an object like a fence or something that I'm supposed to see through but it messes with the background.(drawing order etc.)

1. click on texture editor
2. click on the circle 'alpha'
3. click on the rectangle- set default trans.

Done? or do I have to export or some other way of saving my changes?

I would assume I would export ONLY if I were using this object in another library - with author's permission. Bob

AFAIK just making those changes in MCX do nothing to the MDL file located in the library BGL. You would have to Export the MDL file to save the changes, then replace the existing MDL file within the library BGL file with your edited MDL. I don't know of any program that will do that directly (although I've never tried it so there might be), although I hope that Library Creator XML (or MCX) will eventually do it. :)

Hi,

You do indeed have to export the object again to save the changes. So the best approach would be to make a MDL and put that in the library.

Btw, there is no need to select the radio button of alpha first. That is only used to show the alpha channel in the texture preview image. So just press the "Set Default Transparent" button for the material with the problem should be enough.

Thanx Arno. What messed me up is not doing this for a while. I'm off doing something else for a few months and then coming back to this my brain goes...."now let's see.... what was I supposed to do?" hahaha.

Lately I have been running into libraries that can be manipulated in Instant Scenery.... seen and worked on in Model Con X, but Instant Scenery's library maker can't open it. so odd! older bgl?

Anyway- in that case I sometimes can decompile that library into an xml and a list of mdl's. Then if I am lucky I choose the right mdl to delete and replace with the mdl I modified and exported from Model Con X. From there I mess up and can't get the xml to recompile into a bgl. (using newbglanalyse) It either doesn't recompile or it recompiles without the new mdl in place.

If you or anyone have ideas how to do this it would be appreciated. I figure there is one little step I am overlooking. Bob

Hi Bob,

Not that it will help you much now, but I have a Library Creator XML update planned that will allow you to load and manipulate the BGL file directly. That could solve the need to decompile, each.

One thing to be careful with is mixing FSX and FS2004 objects. They can't be in the same library. But apart from that there is no risk in decompiling a BGL and later recompiling the XML again. Although it is better to only do this with your own libraries of course.
