• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

...The tree's have been designed for custom scenery. Texture Sheet size is a massive 4096 x 4096 pixels ( can be scaled down if required ) and features a mixture of 20 Hi Res deciduous and conifer tree types on the sheet.

Here's a few more image's to demonstrate detail of the tree canopy. Note that there is no ugly texture 'Mirroring' effect, that is often highly noticeable on other tree models.

The trees look very realistic, nice job. I was wondering what kind of frame rate hit one would expect with a mid range computer like I have?

......some ( 2 sets ) of the pine trees on the 4096 x 4096 pixel texture sheet are what I call ' clustered ' . So for example , in the image below there are only actually 6 pine tree models in the scene. However when you look at them, it looks as if there are considerably more - ( it is possible to build up a densely wooded area very quickly indeed, adding other Tree types would make an even more varied appearance ).

All of the Tree's are designed with performance in mind. They are also designed complete with Seasonal texture's and with techniques now available, have the capability of switching Seasons automatically inside of FSX *.
Additionally, imagine being able to plant Tree's such as this, inside your own Custom Scenery whilst FSX is running. Well this is exactly what you can do *. The Tree's can be accurately positioned, adjusted for scale, rotation and
Tree type all at the click of a button and all at speed. Never again will the Trees accidentally be placed where you didn't want them, because you are able to see exactly what you are doing live in the Sim.

The general idea of this method, is that you would create several ( typically 5 or 6 lets say, you could do more if required ) Tree Scene area's, containing multiple or single Tree types.
The next Steps are taken outside of FSX and would require the use of design tools to implement the performance stage. It is possible to apply modern performance technique's, to each of the newly created Tree scene's using the
design tools . It is these techniques which ensure that the level of detail of the Trees , doe's not take a hit on the performance and frame rates of the Custom Scenery package overall.

* For best results, would require the use of both commercially available and non commercially available applications.

Paul,

I am sorry for the late response to your question.
Providing that you adhered to all of the technique's described earlier in this post, It is quite possible that a mid range computer could indeed display Hi Res Tree models without any real issues.

Amazing work!
How can you use/download the library?

Thanks for your comments Fabian.

At this Stage, I am just testing the water ( as so to speak ) as to the demand for work such as this.

The High Res Tree library featured in the screenshots is finished. As stated previously, the library comprises of a mixture of both deciduous and conifer tree types, being 20 trees in all. The library's massive 4096 x 4096 pixel texture sheets include all seasonal variations.

To compliment the Hi Res Tree library, there are under development a series of supplement packs, the first of which features a set of 6 silver birch trees . ( These are featured in the screenshots also. )
The supplement packs use a smaller 2048 x 2048 pixel texture sheet and will again include all seasonal variations.

If you are a scenery designer or a design team in need of a design specialist in this area, then please register your interest by PM to me.

Hi Pete!

I would like to Remond you that I've already sent a PM to you ;-)

Hi Pete!
I would like to Remond you that I've already sent a PM to you ;-)

I am aware of your interest Fabian and many thanks.

.....I have enclosed a link, so that those who might be interested, can take a look at one of the Hi Res Tree Library Tree's live in FSX. The best way would be to use something like Instant Scenery, but I guess you could actually view
the tree externally to FSX, using Arno's MCX program if you preferred. ( The Tree model is intentionally scaled a little larger than when compared with reality, this is for the purpose of demonstration only ).

All of the Tree's in the Hi-Res Tree Library are to the same high level of detail as to this one.

Hope you like it, perhaps you could feedback here if you do.

PS. If you need any instructions regarding the Hi-Res Tree Demo, PM me.

.....to further demonstrate my design capability to you, I am now offering the Hi Res Tree Library to the wider development community.

Conditions of the usage of my Hi Res Tree's in your own project are as follows -

The Hi Res Tree Library / Trees are strictly offered as Freeware. I forbid the Hi Res Tree Library / Tree's to be used in any payware or donationware Scenery Project.

Out of courtesy to me, please credit me accordingly, when you have used the Hi Res Tree Library / Tree's within your Scenery Project.

As the Hi Res Tree Library / Tree's are being offered for free, I offer no further support for the inclusion of them into your project. It is deemed that you will already have an understanding
of exactly how to best achieve this.

Instructions -

Ensure that you have ' TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 ' enabled in your FSX config file.

The Hi Res Tree library Texture Sheet is called by the designation PB_tree_Library_1024.dds ( You will have to rename the Seasonal Texture Sheets contained within the download zip, to PB_tree_Library_1024.dds to view in FSX )

Here is the Download link -

Hope you like them, perhaps you could feedback here if you do.

......would be great to see some screenshots of your own Scenery Project under development, featuring Tree's from the Hi-Res Tree Library.

....further development on the Ultra Hi-Res Tree Supplement Packs, ( Beautiful Birch and young Oak Tree's featured in Pack 1 ) have been suspended until I have the results from the Poll.

I hasten to add of course, It is entirely possible that they may never come to fruition at all.

You can find the Poll being conducted here -
