• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 VASI Brightness

shouldn't the PAPIs be as bright as the approach lights?
I have no idea. You'd have to check for standards.

I think they are to dark (visibility by day 3-5nm, at night >20nm)
The "tweaking" section and Appendix "B" in the manual tell you how to increase the size. Unfortunately, if you make the day-time any brighter (bigger), the light spot appears much too large at close range. PAPI/VASIs use inversely mipped effects. Have you tried that?

Do a search here, I also had this problem. My solution was to retain the default VASI/PAPI lights when stripping the airport (Options/Don't Purge VASI/PAPI). Then place the AFLT lights on top of them. Not perfect, but the best I could do.

I have an idea that may improve this. VASI brightness is controlled by inverse mipmaps, Currently, those mipmaps double/halve in each case. But, If I can make those changes smaller, the brightness at range should increase and at close range appear smaller.

I'm working with Arno on an issue in AIFP at the moment (Aircraft Viewer for MSFS2020). Once that's resolved, I'll take another look at AFLT VASIs

Re my previous [post, I neglected to ask whether you are using BGL_Lights or effects. If the former, AFLT has no control over size or brightness.
