• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Very Strange

I apologise in advance if this is a bit long winded but!
I have created an airfield which although not a stock FSX airport does show in Gen X photo scenery.
I have added a usable runway and 2 that are not and other bits and pieces using ADE.
The airport area has been flattened using SBX.

Yesterday I started to add various objects using Instant Scenery, a few 3rd party library objects but in the main stock default FSX objects.
After each alteration or addition to the obects or indeed to an ADE feature I checked it out by reloading the sim via the scenery library and all was well.

At the end of the day I shut down ADE and FSX.
I restarted FSX and loaded at my airport, but to my surprise there were no objects showing.
All the SBX and ADE features were showing.
I spent some time trying to get the scenery objects to show to no avail.
For want of something new to try I ran ADE and opened it at my airport.Under file it showed that my airport needed saving? which I did and then compiled it. I then copied and pasted the bgl to my airport active folder as I have done with all ADE work.
I restarted FSX and again to my surprise FSX recognised some new data and loaded it.
When FSX finished loading at my airport lo and behold all the objects were showing.
I didn't really think much of it, but the same as happened today.
I have added more objects and ADE features and have I know done everything correctly but at the end of the day the only way I could get all the objects to show was by doing as explained above.
Not a problem now because I know what to do but ?????

Regards
Richard

We can't speak for Instant Scenery but FSX will not update Bgl files when it it running. BglComp appears to compile and there are no errors reported. However if FSX is running the Bgl does not update. Version 1.10 (the next public release of ADE) addresses this problem. I am not saying this is what is happening here but it is a phenomonen worth being aware of. Maybe going through the process of getting FSX to recognize changes in the ADE generated files also caused it to recognize other changes

It may be that when FSX is open the .bgl file is in use and write protected. Try exiting FSX before the compile.

Instant scenery definitely can update the 'live' BGL while FS is running (even under Vista), and ADE can't. I don't know if it gets an error internally, but as of 1.05, if you compile to a 'live' BGL with FS running, nothing happens.

As a workaround, you can compile to a different location, and copy the BGL across with Explorer.

The problem is actually BglComp and it issues no erro message - just does not write to a bgl file if it is in use by another application (i.e. FSX) The next release of ADE contains a check and will report it if the file is in use. It will not allow a compile until FSX is closed

I have used Instant Scenery very intensive and so far have never seen that the objects weren't there after a restart.

Richard, have you used Instant Scenery before and have you seen this error more often than this one time?

I have had problems with objects not showing but that was due to me not doing the job properly in Instant Scenery, I and I sorted that out with the Flight1 guys.
This problem has only manifested itself since doing my current project.
There have been no problems with other projects.

It's occured to me that there was one thing that I was doing which may well have some bearing on the matter.
When I was making changes I was doing as many as possible in "one visit" i.e making changes to ADE AND Instant Scenery and then re activating via FSX scenery library???????
