• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Virtual Cockpit $_texture settings in MCX

Hello, I'm trying to make some changes to some aircrafts like the default cessna 172, I want to change the interior model for one that I'm working on with better textures and custom xml instrument I made, my problem is that I am not familiar with blender or 3dx max because I use sketchup to model, mostly I make scenery models and this is my first project I'm trying with aircrafts, I always use MCX for converting my sketchup moldels to fsx, p3d and msfs but this time I just can't figure out what settings to use in $ vc gauge textures, I even did a test of importing an interior model into MCX and with out any changes exporting it again to FSX and when I load it again all the gauges in the vc panel desappear. could anyone please point me in the right direction of how may I acomplish this task?

Let’s deal with your problem with existing VCs first. How are you importing the interior model? It might be helpful to import the exterior model and then use the green arrows to go to the interior model. Then do the export.

I’m not sure this is needed, but it’s the way I have done it.
Hello, thankyou for your answer, I dont quite understand what you mean by the green arrows, I looked in MCX in the material type hoping to find "virtual cockpit material" but there is no such thing, I saw in another thread you said to set it to default transparent but when I export and load the aircraft, the virtual cockpit texture appear black, another approach i tried was to copy the settings of the $_texture in the model and exporting the textures as DXTBMP and the model as FSX Model but also had no luck, i even tried to export them as P3D 4.4 as I also have P3D 4.5 but then the wind shield appears bright white with no transparency, so I dont really know what to do next, maybe try with blender and the FSX plugin but i have to learn how to aply the material and make it virtual cockpit material, if you could help me to figure it out I'll be very apreciated, sorry for my english as is not my native language, greetings

This is the thread I read:

Hi,

Let me add this to the isue list. I was under the impression that exporting a FSX VC model did not break anything.

I have just repeated the test from Tom, but if I import the C172 VC model and export it to FSX MDL file, it works fine in FSX afterwards. I see all the gauges as before. So there must be something else going on here.

[Hangs head in shame]

Turns out I used an outdated MCX version (it's now tossed so I can't do that again). If I use the latest DEV version or the 1.6 stable version the VC is exported correctly.

Sorry for the misdirect.

So the OP must be having other issues, but I don't know what they are...

So back to the OP. Did you try to copy all material settings from the original VC model for the gauge texture when you added it to your new model?

Hello, yes I did exactly that, I imported the vcmodel from fsx then Isolated the part of the model where the vc gauges are, exported as collada then inporting into sketchup, made my modifications to the vc gauges panel then exported as collada again and imported into MCX, weel actually I first imported the original interior model then with object hachery selected and removed the part of the model, then with merge object Imported and merged the model part, then capied the settings from the $VC Texture, saved textures as DTXBMP and then exported the model as FSX Model but the gauges are not being displayed anywhere on VC, I will give somo more intends next week, as I am out of town, anyway thanks alot for your responces and feedback, I'll try to post the process with video or images, greetings

Did you only copy the name of the VC texture into the imported SketchUp parts or did you also copy the other material attributes?
