• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

VoiceEditPak help

In fact I would go further. Different versions are not backward compatible so you must have each dotNET framework installed since different applications target different framework versions and can only use the version they are targetted on (OK someone will probably tell me about when that does not happen - as could I - but I think it safer this way :))

Lars, waiting patiently for update to the FSX version but have a question. I modified (in fs9) the airport name for NKL to Holley Navy. This change is indeed included in the current FSX version of EVP. In FSX, I have totally redesigned the airport and renamed it to Holley Regional-Northern Florida.

I, of course, would like to make this change in EVP but see that isn't currently possible.

My question then is this: Can I make the modification in the FS9 version of EVP as I did originally, and get it INTO the FSX version? Even if not official (ie, upload to you, you include as you used to..) but include it with my scenery for my VA and others that use it...

Just wish to include the change..of course, not the entire pack...

I do hope you hope that you have not given up on EVP. many of us love what it does for us and look forward to the new version being completed when you have time.

Lars- Just wanted to say 'thanks' for such a great addon! Your efforts are appreciated!:p

As you probably didn't notice (as I didn't really advertise it anywhere) I just made the beta 1 version of EditVoicepack 4.0 available. It is now possible to create modifications again, but unfortunately they can't eyt be shared with others. Basically the following three features are still missing:

  • Import of evpmod files (export is there, just in case it's needed to migrate to a new datafile)
  • Upload/download from the server
  • Support for modifications included in 3rd party scenery or aircraft packages

Any of these should allow you to distribute your airport name, but unfortunately I can't say when I get around to do any of them -hopefully it won't be more than a year this time :)

Lars, you rock!!!!! LOL I did not notice this new version, and I spent about an hour on your site. I will grab it up, and thank you profusely!!!! :)

I, too, will hope that it doesn't take more than a year.. But, I am happy to take what is offered.

Thanks again!!!!!

Lars,
Like a dumb dumb, I got the beta of EVP and put it right over my previous copy. And now I have none. LOL

It just will not load at all. I even went ahead and deleted it totally, downloaded again, and the same problem.

I click to run, and a few seconds after I do this, I get the wonderful window that says EVP has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I run win XP. My comp info is in my sig. The Error Signature is:

EventType : clr20r3
P1 : editvoicepack.exe
P2 : 4.0.3.0
P3 : 4a0703ae
P4 : presentationframework
P5 : 3.0.0.0
P6 : 470bc696
P7 : 660b
P8 : e1
P9 : system.windows.markup.xamlparse

Not sure if that helps at all.

Greg

Funny, I JUST installed 3.5 when the new ADE came out.. Didn't know there was a 3.5 sp1. lol Installing it now. Will post results.

Hey Lars,
I wanted to edit my NKL phrase now that you have it built in. However, I must be missing something. I can't figure out how to make an edit.

I am looking at the NKL voice right now, and I don't see any way to edit it. I have tried right clicking everything, clicking the menu items, etc.. I can't change any of the text either (phrase, description, author)

Thanks for any help,

- Greg

EDIT: I guess I have to do this at the very top, under my modifications...new modification. I see this now..

Ok... new problem. Can't seem to add or delete a marker point.

I can add a segment, but can't edit the segments. Only add and delete entire parts.

Each segment I add it entirely highlighted (blue.) When I right click on a segment, it opens window that offers insert/delete marker, but they are greyed out.

- Greg

You change the selection by dragging the start/end of it.
The entire segment is selected when it is added, so simply hover over the left or right side of the wavefile with the segment and you will see the cursor changing to indicate you can drag the end.

Markers will only be enabled in modifications under "My Modifications/Phraseology".

Thanks Lars. I am used to some sound editing software I have that allows clicking where you want to start/stop an edit... I totally didn't even think about starting at the front / back of the phrase. Been a few years since using EVP.. But I am back on it now. :)

Hey Lars...

When I am trying to make my edits, EVP crashes constantly. It doesn't matter what I am doing in it either. Moving the slider, listening to sounds, clicking on boxes or arrows, etc.. I have been lucky if I can keep it open more than 3 minutes at a time. Most times, it is about 1-1.5 minutes.

I keep flooding MS with the error reports. LOL Since I am sure it is something on their end. But, would you like me to copy and send you the error report? Does EVP make its own error / crash log you may want?

Please let me know what you want me to do.

I will say this...it almost feels like a memory leak. Having beta tested many software packages over the years, I know what they 'feel' like. Oddly, I have 3 gigs on this machine, and not even 1 gig is in use normally. I don't see the memory going down and I don't really see a huge grab of resources...but EVP get very very very sluggish. Did I say it gets VERY sluggish. lol Especially if I am going down in the tree, say to look at my old NKL. It can take up to a minute to open a folder in the tree. The program, including the window tend to just freeze for a while..

Anyways, let me know if you need anything from me. I will try to help you as much as I can.

And this is not only repeatable, it is constant to the point I try to make a small move or edit and then save before it crashes.

Could it be this known problem you are running into:

The tree view is relatively slow and can change the selected node when scrolling big lists. Continuous scrolling will make the problem worse until the point where EditVoicepack might crash.

The only workaround I have is to only expand the branch you need, and save often :(

I have no idea what the problem is, and worst case I might have to redesign the userinterface completely so it doesn't rely on the tree to show modifications - which sucks as I can't really see a decent alternative.

This in fact does happen. And is annoying. I was getting crashes, however, when I didn't use the tree at all. Just trying to edit my phrase.

This said, I was able to finish my edit.

Memory leaks are one of the most annoying things to find. A little loop somewhere that you can't track down is a real pain in the butt. This problem really does feel like that to me. Then again, I have not done actual programming in 20 years...so who knows what new things in that time can look the same.

I love the layout and User Interface you have created. It is very modern and feels great. I hope that you do not need to redesign. However, instead of the tree layout, if that seems to be the main catalyst for the crashes, how about a tabbed look? Either tabs on the side or across the top. Click a tab and it opens a window showing everything inside. Basically the same as the tree, but much less logic to deal with, I would imagine.

Just a thought...

- Greg

I think I can maintain the tree for the groups (or folders, whatever you want to call them) - it's showing thousands of modifications in the tree that is problematic (it really shouldn't be since the SP1 version of .NET 3.5 though, so it's rather strange).

I didn't notice any increase in memory consumption, but I did notice that certain GUI elements would stop showing up - maybe it's the video subsystem that's giving the problem (video memory or something).

XP would probably be more prone to failure than Vista, as the XP GUI system is simply outdated.
