• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

VORDME Data Block > "Range" entry

Anyone know where there's a guide for creating Navaids (especially VORs)?
I'm adding a VORDME station and would appreciate some guidance
regarding how to use the Range entries. Their is a large block
for entering Range (distance?), and another smaller block for selecting a
Range parameter ("M" or "N"?).
I beleive that range for High VORs is ~195mm, and low VORs is
~60nm. I would like to know how to set these correctly in the
FSX Planner's VOR Data applet.
Thank you,
Ken Boardman

Well I may have figured it out. Seems the range must be entered
in small units (ie. Meters) > so "M" must appear in the small block.
And the range (nautical miles) must be converted to meters (a whole
bunch of meters) and then entered into the "Range" block.
Also learned that if the DME block is checked, it's very important to
make the Altitude and Lat / Lon entries at the bottom of the
applet or else when the Nav Radio is set to the VOR Freq, the
DME reading on the cockpit Nav display will be rediculously rediculous
(not accurate at all).

FSX Planner has not been supported by the developer for some years. I think one or two folks still use it or have it installed. I would be surprised though if you needed to enter a navaid range in meters. I assume that using the 'N' options would allow you to enter nautical miles as the value.

Thank you for the tips Jon. What program could you recommend
for purpose of adding Navaids and creating / adjusting airfields,
bearing in mind that I'm relatively new at this.
Best regards,
Ken

I think there are two current alternatives if you are working with FSX.

The first is AFX. This is payware from Flight1 and very similar to AFCAD for FS9. You can check it out on the Flight1 site here http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=afxv1 The support forum for AFX is here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum31.html

The second is ADE. This is freeware and you can check out the details here: http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk The support forum for ADE is here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=95

I have had the AFX payware and have used it several times with success.
I believe that I used it a few months ago to create some exclusions.
AFX created my VOR location and frequency assignments yesterday, but
then could not determine how to add a VOR object (building) to the
location; so I used FSX Planner for placing the building.
Coincidently, I downloaded the ADE program yesterday after reading
about it a few threads. Haven't installed it yet, but I'm looking forward
to trying it.
Thank you for the tips and recommendations.
Best regards,
Ken

Thank you for the tip regarding ADE Jon. I've used it three times
and like it very much.
