Hi folks, I wonder if anyone here can help me with a 2D gauge issue I am having in FSX/P3D. I recently decided to revisit an old project that was abandoned years ago partly because we lost our lead texture artist, partly because my great friend and well known coder Roman Stoviak (Spokes2112) died and partly because a payware developer released the same aircraft just before we were going to release ours (we didn't even know they were working on the same aircraft). The combination of all of the above led to 'burnout' and general apathy about finishing any of the then current projects (I had multiple on the go in various stages of completion) and I just gave up developing and even simming for 12-18 months or more!
Fast forward to now and since getting P3D v4.5 last year I have been having a blast again and I have been working on some of the old FSX projects and trying them out in P3D. I recently started on this particular aircraft again and spotted a typo in the text of a pop-up gauge window that somehow had never been spotted/corrected before. I don't have access to the original PSD file anymore to correct the typo so I have had to resort to opening up the gauge bitmap in Photoshop, painting out all the black text as I couldn't find the original font and replacing it with new text just to fix a missing letter 'e' in a single word!
I replaced the old texture with the new texture in the panel .cab file and tested it but I have a problem I have never seen before after years of messing around with FS2004, FSX and P3D gauges! In the screenshot below you can see that all the black text has become transparent and I don't know why.
The black text on the gauge bitmap has become transparent and I cannot find a way to fix it. I have used both 0,0,0 and 1,1,1 as the colour for the text in Photoshop. I have used 'Background_color=0,0,0' and 'Background_color=1,1,1' in the 'window X' section in the panel.cfg file (1,1,1 just makes the spare space around the clipboard go black). If I right-click on the pop-up window and select 'Undock Window' the text goes back to solid black but then I have a black border around the clipboard and a menu bar on the top. The black 'x' characters are bitmaps placed by the gauge code according to where the user clicks and they remain solid black.
I have saved the BMP as both an 8 bit and a 24 bit file and the black text still appears transparent in the sim. All the other pop-up windows behave correctly so I can only assume the problem lies with the clipboard BMP file for some reason.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before and/or have a suggest as to what I can try next?
