• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

West Melton Aerodrome (NZWL)

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to West Melton. A small aerodrome located in, ironically, West Melton, New Zealand. The aerodrome is 6 nautical miles west of Christchurch International Airport. The aerodrome is owned and operated by the Canterbury Aero Club, which operate out of Christchurch International, but use West Melton for ab-inito training as it is an ideal training environment away from the busy environment of an international airport. The airport has 3 runways - 2 and half of which are grass, leaving the remaining half runway of bitumen surface.

Below you'll find a few screenshots. One of which is a render of the main Canterbury Aero Club hanger, the rest are the photo-real scenery. I have nearly completed the annotation for it too. Another bonus is I occasionally fly out of here in real life, which means getting reference photo's and designing the airport should not be too hard.

A few of you also know I'm working on Palmerston North, don't fear. Palmerston North is still in the works. Considering Palmerston North is my first project, I thought I'd break away and try a smaller airport just to make sure I fully understand the concepts of scenery design.

Cheers.

A few more previews of the upcoming West Melton Aerodrome. First attempt at the ground poly for this airport, and quite pleased with the results. I've included an overview of the airport to give you an idea of how it looks. It's a pretty unique aerodrome. Anyways, I've traveling out to the aerodrome hopefully tomorrow to get as many pictures as I can of the buildings, the surrounding area and whatever else I can gather.

Cheers :)

What does 2 days of work get you? A nearly complete hangar. This is the main hangar at this aerodrome and where the local Aero Club store some of their aircraft. I visited the aerodrome a couple days ago and took as many reference photo's as I could, and it look's pretty darn close. I've chucked up a few renders as well as one reference photo to give you an idea of how close-ish it looks!

Great work! I would suggest the PR needs a bit of the blue tint removed just using levels in GIMP or Photoshop. Love the runway and hangar.

Cheers,

Yes, Completely agreed. I haven't yet color corrected the PR yet, but I will get to that. Thanks for your kind words.

Great work Ablai; Those photoreal quality textures are incredible. The gravel and concrete surfaces looks great. :wizard:

Keep it up!
Sergio.

Hi All....

Couple weeks ago I started modelling (with a little bit of texturing) the main building at this aerodrome. It's a small building, but quite fun to model. I'll leave the renders below, as always, let me know what you think! ;)

(Ignore the different texture shades of colors on the first render, I just had a few different shades and was trying to pick the one that matched the real one the best.)

G'day everyone. Back with an update in regards to the scenery. I've been doing quite a bit of work behind the scenes, but proud to say that all the modelling (building wise) is nearly complete. I'm just finishing the tiny details on the last few hangers then I'll start to texture them. After that I plan to model all the marker boards and cones and place them around the airport, followed by 3D Grass. I'll leave a render of the hangar's below. Progressing quite well so far.
