• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Where can I download LODExtentsCalculator?

Came across this tool on a thread several years old. Looks like the nice work of rhumbaflappy. Is this still available anywhere or maybe a newer version?

Thanks,

Clutch

It used to be available directly from Dick's web pages via the [rhumba's SkyDrive Files] button.

http://www.ludowise.x10host.com/

However, it seems that a number of the sub-pages on that site have links that are not working. :banghead:

I have sent a PM to rhumbaflappy with a link to this thread, and I hope he would be willing to restore full functionality and content to all linked web pages on his site, as IMHO these are very valuable resources to the FS Community. :wizard:

PS: A few other references to the "LOD Extents Calculator" (aka "LEC") utility:

Hope this helps !

Thx Gary,

For pitching in. Did the same research as you... broken links. Hope he re-post that app. Could use it.

So, let me add in the meantime, any quick way (or non-quick I guess), to fine the extents of a particular LOD for any part of the world? For me, it's for the USA.

Thanks for the timely access to those files Dick ! :)

PS: Any possibility the larger mix of files including the "worked examples" etc. last seen on your SkyDrive site might be available again in the future ? :scratchch

Hi Gary.

I changed my signature to include the onedrive (formerly skydrive) files.

Hi Dick,

Thx for re-posting that app. Gave 'r a try... real nice. I see it goes up to LOD 13. Is that because of when the app was developed or is there no need to go further like LOD say 17 thru 20?

BTW: Although the apparent focus of this thread is to make typical FS SDK Resample mesh-clinging custom photo-real land class scenery, I thought it might be worthy of mentioning that upon reviewing some of the linked threads in this previous post:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/photoscenery-how-much-overlap.425814/#post-635694

...I again found this interesting incidental reminder by Dick which references the SBuilder for FS9 "Hi-Resolution" photoreal method:

Hi bina.

SBuilder for FS9 has an option to build groundpolys and map the texture to them. I'm not very familiar with this method, but I believe you could load a DEM of some type to provide the elevation, and it also allows an offset for the groundpolys.

Maybe someone with experience could chime in. It allows up to 1.2 meter/pixel resolution.

Dick

Hmmm... one might wonder if "textured '3D' < and not just '2D' > sloped ground polys" at resolutions higher than 1.2 Meters / pixel made with ex: SCASM rather than via FS SDK Resample might merit exploration sometime soon (....in yet another thread !) ;)

Who knows; we might find such legacy SCASM code may allow 2D or 3D G-Polys to utilize transparency and/or color component overlay for seamless blending.

And of course, thus far we haven't explored 'ChromaKey' (aka "Color Key") for such superimposition / blending available in FS SDK methods ! :D
