• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v3 Which 3D modeling tools work with P3D?

I'm thinking about getting P3D v3.1 but I spend the majority of my hobby time trying to make scenery and/or aircraft so I'm wondering about which modeling tools support P3D development. I guess Gmax is out (no gamepack). What about Blender or FSDS? I can't afford 3ds Max as I'm not a student and this is just a hobby for me.

I myself am planning on getting P3D soon.

I know ModelConverterX supports P3D, and Airport Design Editor X, and I think SbuilderX is compatible too. I saw a link to it here http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?88098-Release-SbuilderX-64bit-for-FSX-P3D. I use Blender, Sketchup, and Gimp for all my projects because they are free. When I started to look into getting P3D, I was worried that nothing would be compatible, but you would be surprised how many programs it has.

I think you can still use Gmax and FSX game pack. Export it as FSX mdl and put it through MCX developmental release. You can change the properties that P3D support (which is better than FSX) by this tool.
Blender is also a good program. It has render capability. If you are new to any programs, I would recommend Blender.

Thanks Chris and Tic for the help, so the best bet for now is to make FSX objects and tweak with MCX for P3D since MCX gives access to any new P3D material settings or other features (I'm also curious if there are new animation or attachtool features). Using MCX is not ideal since the P3D settings would not be in the source file, but it's a good workaround.

Maybe a Blender2P3D tool set will happen some day. I'd help with it if I could wrap my brain around Python code. :)

I'm learning about Blender, it's an incredible program. Very complex but fortunately there's a lot of good learning material available.
