• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Why is MCX programmed so complicated?

Whoever programmed MCX, did it too complicated. I exported layers of runway from gmax, it has 7 textures (including markings). MCX just loads 4 of them. To make it easier, I duplicated few objects and MCX doesn't like it? It never loads those 2 objects.

Attaching files. Gmax image shows runway texture and its overlay coloring.
MCX skipped those 2 and replaced with some other texture.

Who programmed this MCX this way? Its frustrating.

Hello

Are you needing some assistance or were you just wanting to make the above statement?

If assistance is requested, You might want to tell us a few things, such as for which FS [for example FSX, FSX: Steam Edition or P3D (and if so what version)] is this for? Can only assume, that you are trying to create a ground poly for an airport. Why the 7 layers or textures needed (including the markings)? Maybe a little background on what and how you got to this point (describing each step), then we can assist you.

You can try unchecking the box "Filter Out Non-Ground Polygons" and see if they all show up.

Who programmed this MCX this way?
Arno did and if you do not like it, just do not use it and find another program (bluntly speaking)?
Doug said it all.
And in case you never read every thread that deals with this issue, may I remind you that as far as ground polys are concerned, MCX needs a different texture per layer.
And if you want two objects to appear you will have to give them two different names and two different GUIDs.
Boy, oh boy, you must have been in an real bad mood when you wrote this thread.
OK, it happens to everyone now and then, and it can be frustrating, but you should be a little bit more careful before you write down what you do (I know, because I regret it myself sometimes).

Talking like this about one of the few tools that really is a game changer in the FS world. People never fail to surprise me again and again.

Hi,

Actually to keep the GPW simple is was designed so that you specify a layer for each texture. That's not complicated. It sounds like you might use the same texture on different layers and that is currently not supported by the GPW.

Having said that, I have an update in development that will change this and add support for multiple layers on the same texture. But I couldn't not get that tested before my vacation.

Here's an example. I created 4 textures. Without duplicating anything, I added those 4 textures to different objects such as the very top dirt and color overlay, concrete base and some asphalt base and then taxiway edges. Once I import to MCX, the top colored dirt texture won't show up. One of the other texture got automatically applied to that object. Any fix for this? Its like working carefully for 2 days and I get this silly result..
So, is it a problem with MCX? FSX/P3D SDK pack or Gmax? And finally, is there a better new 3d software good enough for creating ground poly? such as Maya, 3DS max(newer versions)?

Ya I was in little bad mood because for me this specific texture problem happens all the time, then somehow it just works after playing with it alot. o_O:(:banghead:

I made a work around. In gmax, I merged -attached all same texture polygon into one big polygon. Now it has 1 specific texture per object and all show up.
SOLVED. Thanks Arno and others. Didn't know there was such a catch on MCX.
