• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

wind turning runway indicator

Hi Arno,

As an experiment I replaced them with a heading of 180 in the xml and they seem to be working correctly.

Thanks for the help.

Just for the info...

I built an Instant Scenery library with the windsocks in it and added them to my scenery using IS. Worked like a charm. As stated, just make sure that the heading is set to 0 (zero) when adding.

Thanks Arno, Jon and all for these fantastic socks.

Great, Phil! Don't forget Jörg who is the key creator of this model ...

Jon

Hey Jon.

That brings up a good point...

is it OK for me to use these windsocks in a free scenery? If so, what would be the proper credits for the readme?

Yes, we've all given permission for this to be used in freeware, with the appropriate wording in the readme. When you download the version available from the download section here, the readme should have the proper credits. Let us know if you cant' find it.

EDIT: it ain't here. Was it posted at AVSIM?

Here is the object. But there is no readme in that file, I can't remember that we made any :D.

Hi,
Thank you for this freely usable model.
I may use it as a generic windsock in my sceneries.
My question is what's the matter if some of my work turn into payware ? Will I have to replace them ?
Regards

Permission for windsock use in payware

ALain, you have my permission to use in payware, however you will also need Jorg and Arno's permission.

Jon

Are we talking about FSX? I thought wind turning objects are no more possible.

Hi Thorsten, you are correct that we can no longer tweak the models for conditional animations in FSX. However the FS9 windsock works fine in FSX.

No problem for me as well (with the same condition as for freeware, a little credit in the docs for the three of us :)).

So, a mdl that was exported with FS2004 exporter and tweaked for conditional display works in fsx?

Alain,
no problem also for me. Have fun with it.

I would also like to thank you guys!! Would there be any problem with changing the colour of the windsock in the .bmp? All Australian windsocks are just 1 colour. No stripes?

Cheers Tony

Hi Tony,
simply take the Texture and change it as you like. In case you choose the version, which has a night texture, you also have to change this file. And include the Object in your library and also the texture-files. In the case, someone has got a copy of the windsock in another scenery. It is placed in many places all over the world already...

As Joerg said it is possible, just make sure you put the library BGL and texture in the local folders of your scenery project, so that you do not get conflicts with other instances of this windsock in other sceneries using the same texture.
