• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FS2004 Windows7 and XML gauges

Hi folks,

A rather non-specific question here: I have just reinstalled FS9 (and 9.1) into a new Windows 7 x64 Ultimate installation (I was on XP x64 until now) and my gauges seem to be causing problems!

I see tearing and flickering as well as a general performance hit with my XML based gauges that was never there with XP, Just for reference, I also see some flicker in the default GPS gauge. It's really rather annoying as I was expecting (after much reading) to have /better/ performance in Windows7!

I wonder, is there a known problem of FS9 gauges being treated significantly differently in Windows 7 compared to XP? Anyone have any ideas what I could try to fix this? I have applied all the obvious tweaks (I think) so now I really don't know what to try next...

Cheers,
Geoff

PS. Hardware and software information added:
PC - CPU i7-2600k on ASUS Sabertooth P67 with 16GB RAM, GTX 580 OC graphics, ASUS Xonar Essence soundcard, Windows 7 on an SSD and FS9 on a different SSD.
Display - 2 x 1920x1200 displays on TripleHead2Go device
Drivers - All updated. nVidia 306.97 WHQL.

None that I know of or that I have experienced when I migrated. tearing etc you mention could be graphics issue, but alas I have no proposed solution. I cant be any happier with win7. Maybe I was "lucky"

It appears to be a problem with recent Nvidia cards and drivers.

For example:

Hope this helps,

Yes, I read a couple of posts where people rolled back to 275.xx or 250.xx drivers but I have tried both sets and the problems remain... I could try and find an even older driver set but surely if that was necessary for FS9 on a modern machine then the net would be full of it..?

Yup - lucky me!
I have managed to get it working a bit better by trying out different AA settings and applying a very harsh 'services shutdown' protocol before running FS, but it's far from ideal. Still got a CTD trying to open the kneeboard and generally it's 50:50 as to whether the panel is goign to flicker or not when I open the sim!
Thinking it might be worth a shot picking up an AMD graphics card instead of my nVidia 580... That way I can use the eyefinity feature with my monitors and dump the TripleHead2Go as well! If that fails then it's just going to have to be back to good old XP x64 in dual boot and I'll have wasted a week pi$$ing about with all this!
