• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I just wanted to redownload SbuilderX 3.14 but it seems like the page is down :yikes:
Does anyone know smthn why they're not reachable, or would be able to send me SbuilderX?

I'm rather concerned about this situation, as PTSIM has vast amounts of reference and learning resources which are of great value to the FS development community for SBuilder for FS9 and SBuilderX, as well as MSFS scenery development in general; IMHO it would not be a good thing for this website to remain offline. :(

Whereas one got no reply to a PING of http://www.ptsim.com a week ago, now one can PING with a return, but attempts at navigating to that URL simply bring up a blank page.

Could someone with "insider connections" to Luis Sa' and Luis Feliz-Tirado please give us a status update on what is going on with this website ? :scratchch

Many Thanks ! :)

Luis Feliz-Tirado has been minding the ptsim website for Luis Sa. Unfortunately, I don't have their email addresses. i have tried to start a conversation through this forum, so we'll see. Luis Sa has retired from active participation in his website, as I recall. Our friend, Luis Feliz-Tirado has had some difficulties with his computer and has limited resources to keep up with our hobby... he hasn't been active since January either here or at AVSIM.

I do fear we may not see ptsim.com anymore.

Me too; but personally I would think after the extraordinary amount of effort expended on the part of both Luis Sa' and the FS Development Community over many years, that the latter would deserve to not be abandoned and left without access to at least an archive of the forums system at some FS website in a downloadable read-only format (how big could it be ...a couple of Gigabytes at most ?)

THIS JUST IN...

IS SBUILDER NOW JOINING OTHER FS DEVELOPMENT TOOLS IN A MUSEUM OF MSFS ABANDON-WARE ? :banghead:

I will try and make a copy available as well on my server. Also perhaps it can be put in the resources here since an older version is present.

FYI: Richard Ludowise (aka "rhumbaflappy") has generously made many valuable resources available to the FS development community via a freely accessible download site: ;)

NOTE: The link posted within the following thread is direct to a 'full install ZIP-package of SBuilderX v3.14'. :pushpin:

Hope this helps ! :)

Yep.. That would be it... After a day or two, thats where i found it...

Hi all.

I was contacted by Luis Feliz-Tirado concerning ptsim.com.

He has been working as administrator to the website as a favor to Luis Sa, and has contacted him about the problem. The host provider was recently changed, and there may be a problem there. At any rate, the proper people are aware of the problem, and it is up to Luis Sa to resolve the issue.

Our friend, Luis Feliz-Tirado is much less active in the community, but he occasionally visits here, and I hope that will continue. He is also a treasure we don't want to lose.

Indeed, it would be wonderful to see Luis Feliz-Tirado (aka "LFT") here more often; he is a very generous and helpful person who has contributed extensively to the FS development community, and his clearly-worded tutorials are an outstanding example for others to learn from. :teacher:

I also believe it would be a good idea to ask him if copies of his numerous HMTL / CHM / PDF tutorials on scenery development and various tools and supplements to the MSFS SDK Docs might be made available for download here at FSDeveloper.

I still feel a bit apprehensive over the possibility of seeing many important references and other resources for the FS development community being lost, after seeing scenery.org go off-line, and after the "AVSIM hack". :redflag:

BTW
: Some items previously available on scenery.org are still accessible via "Internet Archive Wayback Machine":

Hi Dick,
Does he need any contributions? We can do that. I think it is pity if this site disappear.

I don't think Luis Sa needs donations, but you never know. I think he's just retired and done with simming. I do know Luis was a programming professor. And SBuilderX was primarily an exercise in converting VB6 into vb.net. I don't believe there will be a future version of SBuilder.

I have been in touch with Luis Féliz-Tirado, who is minding the website for Luis Sá. Luis Sá is out sailing in the Mediterranean. When he returns, one of us might be able to contact him and see if he would be interested in restarting the website.

I also have found out he may be interested in releasing the code to SBuilderX. We'll see if that holds true, and we could perhaps upload it here. The vb6 code to SBuilder9 was lost long ago.

Hello

I just found out , to my astonishment, that the ptsim web site is no longer available. I was conversing with Luis Feliz a few months ago regarding a tool I was working on to enable automated scenery downloads using SBX. He was quite interested in this capability and I had promised to share when it was ready (to be shared subsequently with others in the community who might be interested as well). Unfortunately I got busy and delayed this considerably. When it was finally completed I had the unpleasant realization that I was unable to reach Luis via the ptsim link.

I am hoping that Luis will be visiting this forum and notice this message. If so I would really like to reconnect with him and share my prototype. If you happen to speak to him I would really appreciate it if you can convey this message.

Thank you.

Gopal

If Luis really has "thrown in the towel", we should be thinking about the best way forward, rather than "ringing our hands". Even if he's prepared to release his source code, who's going to pick it up and render support with it. That's generally a non-starter. Instead, I suggest we should be looking for a replacement.

Two obvious alternatives come to mind:
  • Jon expand the terrain processing in ADE to include the generally required but missing operations; or
  • now that the latest beta release of Terrain Sculptor seems to be behaving, I expand it to a more-or-less full replacement for sBuilder - at least for the commonly used functions. The hard parts, e.g., clipping, FS9 interface, CVX generation, already exist, so I suspect extending TS to handle terrain polys and lines generally would not be a big deal. TS already imports and exports sBuilder SBX format, so moving to TS from sBuilder would be easy, and an interface to ADE is planned. Now, with the existence of CVX Extractor, TS could read CVXE's XML output and also provide a .bgl modification capability - something not previously possible.
My two cent's worth.

Don

One of the most important features of SBX is its ability to display photo textures directly from Google and Bing.
