• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

MSFS20 EHEH - Eindhoven Airport

It's difficult finding pictures of it, this is probably the best I could find:


It's located in the middle between the two Transavia planes, there you see what kind of looks like a jet bridge coming out of the terminal. But there is no actual jet bridge attached, it's just stairs (and an elevator) which lead you to the platform. I've boarded from those gates at multiple occasions.

Also, in front of the second Transavia plane there is a bridge for arriving passengers, it passes over the departure lanes for the various gates and leads the arriving passengers to the terminal. I can't remember having seen that modeled either. Will it be included?

The terminal interior screenshots look awesome by the way, really good. I'm looking forward to seeing more of that such as the upstairs area with gates 11 and 12 and the Starbucks opposite them.

you are right, the bridge is not there, yet, I know about it but it haven't been model yet, I'm focusing at the main building before adding extensions to the building

It's the end of January so it's time to show you the progress I made during this month (with some renderings, not from the simulator itself, but a good way to text the normal maps), the terminal is almost complete and hopeful in the next update you will see the final result of the model

Clearly those images came from the real airport, but I am not sure with what camera were used. It looks a very nice Terminal inside. I wonder no passengers in there around, maybe remodeling. Please, confirm if I am right.

well, it's the model with some 3D renderings, happy to hear that it looks like the real thing.
I will add people from the simulator as simobjects and not as 3D objects in the model so it won't look empty

Felix, I knew that, but I couldn't believe it so real so perfect!!! Frame time could be ready to install that Artwork in my system?

for a minute I believe that 🤣
well, each day I defiantly come closer to the finish line but I can't point on a date yet, each time I try to give timelines I find myself missing them and going over the predicted time, for the terminal I gave 2-2.5 month and I'm already on my 3th month working on it, but on the other hand I having fun working on it and each time going deeper into the details.
at this time I can say that most of it done and it's the biggest and most complex object in the project, after that I still need to work on the landscape (thinking that it will take one month) and the walk in gate's roof (2 weeks) so I don't know if this estimations is correct but after that two objects will be ready I will start moving all the objects into the simulator and a beat version.

Please, don't rush and take your time as needed otherwise the EHEH Artwork will not be finished as expected. I can't wait (lol).

I’m curious what your approach is regarding exact accuracy of the dimensions of various buildings and objects. Are you a “measure twice, cut once” type of person or do you just get it started with approximate dimensions and adjust later? I find that I spend a lot of time getting started and planning and that drags things out because there’s not much visible progress. I spend a lot of time looking for reference material and looking at it. Do you just get started quickly and fix things after if they don’t fit?

In my profession I'm an architect so I coming to a project like this with the same way I doing to a real project, from big to small, I start with the general dimensions and shape, measuring it from maps or even plans ,sections and elevations if I can get them, if not I'm using photos to match different photos of the same object from different angle to create the shape, after having the basic shape with more or less accurate proportions and dimensions I moving to the structural elements (beams and columns), after they are in place I can move to the windows and smaller elements on the facade like doors current walls (it's always back and forth, better to fix it at this point before you start drag the misalignment to a deeper stage of the modeling and then it will be harder to fix), and that was my first stage of the terminal, after that I moved to the interior and texture of the exterior.
in this project I'm also added a slop on the flat roof because of it size due to the drainage angle (usual 1.5-2%)

on the interior the same logic, from big to small objects, I started with the floor texturing because it uses as a reference (each element in a building has a standard dimensions, door are 210cm height, corridors has there minimum width and more) in my case from the photos I also spent time gathering and learning the common tiles for the floor are 40X40cm so it can help me measuring distances and dimensions of object when I'm looking at photos, after finishing the walls, floors and ceilings and other architectural elements it's time to move to decorations, furniture and other elements that placed inside the terminal.

in the update you can see that most of the time spent on the signs, I located all of them and make a custom sign for each one of them, the air ducts been placed also according to the real life locations and the lights been hanged up from the ceiling according to the real layout, also I created the cabals that holding them and trim each one of them according to the roof's slope.
It took me time to make some of the custom furniture (there is also a standard there, table are 70-75cm, bars are 90cm and more)
and some other objects to fill the space
there is some other spaces I've been working on but they are not finished or not good enough as a preview in my opinion (attach them here anyway)

Thanks for the explanation of making the roof texture in such a detailed way. Would you please tell how the textures on the wall, the windows etc are made? My textures for models lack the sense of realism

and now I'm adding the seamless texture of the bitumen roof (I'm trying to align them with the layout of the aerial image' you can see the border of each bitumen sheet, so I'm trying to align with them)
also I'm duplicating this group, and playing with opacity and filtering so I get the result that I want

and the last thing, I'm painting a shape over the roof and make it inadvisable (0% fill) this way you can apply inner shadow with out making it disappear when when you compare it to opacity)
this will darken the edges of the roof

and now I'm saving the texture and it override the texture in the model and this is how it look

and yes, I will use high res texture with opacity over an aerial image for the runway/aprone and taxiways
