• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    3DS Max Unknown Lines

Don't worry, those lines are just connecting the hole to the rest of the mesh. You will have those in various places no matter what. If you want to move them, I suggest using the cut tool to create a new edge that spans across the taxiway between the edge of taxiway or other holes in the...

FSX Transparent window, but transparent internal walls too when I look throught the glass

I think in this case it would be easier to simply check the double-sided material option on the material in MCX or in the texture options in 3DS Max. This should force the textures to show regardless of what angle you see the walls at. However, you might have to play around with the transparency...

    P3D v2 Transparency issues

I suppose I should have updated this a while ago (actually, I forgot I even made this thread, but anyhoo...). It took me a lot of experimenting, but I figured out I needed to tweak the material settings a bit differently from what they would be for FSX. Mostly has to do with using z-bias and...

    FSXA Help with volumetric grass

I'd suggest creating/editing the mipmaps manually in GIMP or Photoshop, and applying a sharpening filter to each one to reduce the blurring.

    SketchUp to?

How are you creating the taxilines, and what program are you doing it in?

FSXA So how do I make these windows?

If it's anything like Max, it'll add a bunch of extra vertices around the new cuts. This is unavoidable and will need to be cleaned up manually (unless there's a method which does it automatically. If there is, I guess I've been doing it the hard way for a long time...) Sent from my...

FSXA So how do I make these windows?

Well, it helps to know what program you are using, first off (I'll assume you're using either GMax or 3DS Max). Create a spline with the shape of the window, then add an edit poly modifier and extrude the surface out to the width of the aircraft. Select the fuselage, then go to the compound...

    Texture Processing

I use the GIMP DDS plugin. Quality is somewhat better than what you get with DXTbmp, and you can export it directly.

    SketchUp to?

In my experience, Sketchup is too limiting compared to full-featured 3D packages (ie: you don't have fine control over polygon subdivision, texturing is pretty basic, animation is a nightmare and I'm not even sure it can transfer to MCX). As for Gmax, that program is long dead, and in my...

    Misaligned Textures

Start by re-importing the resulting BGL in MCX, does the texture mapping appear incorrect there? Does this happen with other objects as well, or is it just with this building?

    GWX(Get Windows X)

Windows 10 beta user here. Definitely upgrade from 8.1 when you get the chance, not only are the controller issues no longer present, but I've noticed a marked increase in performance on the new OS (I'd say it's a solid 10-15% gain).

    FSX Animation Software

I think you can do basic modeling with Sketchup, but if you're serious about it then you should look into 3DS Max (expensive) or Blender (free, but a steeper learning curve, in my opinion).

    FSX Sunshine Coast Airport- YBSU

Personally, I'd recommend modeling them separately, but then use the attach tool to combine them into a single mesh once you have them textured and finalized. Also, I would instead create them by enabling viewport rendering on the splines (this makes it much easier to edit the shape of the...

    FSX Default B737 Model

Definitely try doing a repair. Make a backup of your install first though because it may overwrite files that are modified. Also...I'm just curious, what was the addon that did the damage?

P3D v2 Colorado Springs Airport (KCOS)

Update -- 18 May, 2015 First update in a long time! Geez, even *I* was starting to think this project was dead! (It was just, uh, sleeping...) Anyhoo, things got slow-going again in April due to school commitments (and because Kerbal Space Program 1.0 came out...oops), and work ceased...

    FSXA Guess the project

Is it bigger than a loaf of bread?

    FSXA Guess the project

Okay, I know how to figure this out...is it an animal, vegetable, or mineral?

    FSXA Guess the project

It's an unidentifiable polygon. 10/10 would guess again.

P3D v2 Default runway covers ground poly, GPW layers not working.

Okay, I think I've got something. It appears that P3D does something kinda screwy with textures using alpha channels. It seems you have to disable everything involving z-writing or z-testing to get them to display properly, while it appears textures that don't have alpha channels can use these...
