• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Tips and tricks from an idiot savant

I remember back when I first started using Gmax, when close to having completed my first aircraft exterior, getting a message that said my .gmax file was corrupted. This was after turning off the autosave features that were causing Gmax to crash at unsustainable intervals. But in the end I...

How on Earth did they do this?

I wonder what they would use to make those stitches in 3D. Something like Substance Painter? I see a lot of this type of stuff from upcoming Milviz projects (most notably the C-130) and it seems like they're taking screenshots in Max of either super fine details that are either "sculpted" in...

MAX animation constraints for a telescoping rod

I seriously need to spend some time experimenting with that stuff. Rigging is the one thing I haven't had much practice with, probably because FS's limited animation intake didn't motivate me to try more advanced techniques.

    P3D v3 3DS Max question

You could either just delete the undesirable faces within the cut or go for a different method that a lot of us around here have been using for a while, which is to use the "Cut" tool with vertex snaps activated to trace a spline in the shape of your window. It doesn't create the unnecessary...

MAX animation constraints for a telescoping rod

So you just slide them all in manually, one at a time? Seems like it would involve a lot of guesswork and tedious frame-by-frame adjustments, since the sliding motion is not linear in relation to the door. Of course, the only time I've ever animated a system like this was in Inventor, where...

MAX animation constraints for a telescoping rod

I'm sure that some of the more seasoned animators here have dealt with a thing like this before...I can't seem to find much documentation on Max's animation constraint system to get myself oriented, so my head is full of ideas that are probably not even applicable to the program. What I have...

    F-15 Reporter

Wow, that mesh is surprisingly organized. Those FBX plugins must have been updated since I last tried importing an Inventor model to Max...All I can remember is nasty triangulation and no edge flow whatsoever.

(Hypothetical) - What would you do with source files from a paid project that got scrapped?

That's what I will try to do then, provided that I don't get a response within the next few days. Perhaps my current team has connections to someone else who may want it. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

(Hypothetical) - What would you do with source files from a paid project that got scrapped?

Nope...If that were the case then I really couldn't care less about whether or not the product actually made it to market. I was promised quite a large sum of money shortly before the team disbanded, and they weren't heard from again. It's just...ugh...all that time and energy wasted.

(Hypothetical) - What would you do with source files from a paid project that got scrapped?

In this hypothetical situation, there is no paperwork involved. Zero, none. I only call them [REDACTED] out of decency and also because the company doesn't exist anymore, so their name is irrelevant anyway. My naive self used to think that not being bound to these people would benefit me in the...

(Hypothetical) - What would you do with source files from a paid project that got scrapped?

Let's say that you were working on a paid project roughly 12 hours a week, for almost a year total, for a startup company named [REDACTED]. A year of modeling, animating, texturing and a bit of coding goes by, while [REDACTED] posts images of the product in development to stir up hype in a...

    Adding elements to Virtual Cockpit

Unless you can somehow get ahold of the original modeldef.xml, then no it is not possible. It's not necessarily gauges that are the problem, it's the animations and clickspots. You can easily find out which gauges go where by picking materials from the cockpit and looking for a "$" texture name...

    Gulfstream product licensing

Perhaps. Or maybe they already have their own full-motion, in-house sims that replicate the real aircraft 100% and are perfectly happy with that. And Ronald, the only reason I posted this was to see if anyone else had dealt with the company and had experiences they wanted to share. If I was...

    Gulfstream product licensing

First off, happy new year to all. Hopefully 2017 brings joy and prosperity to all of us around the world. I was browsing through TurboSquid's model catalog the other day and stumbled across several Gulfstream jet models...modeled in full detail (from what I could tell) and without any name...

A Final Update on my Dad

So very sorry for your loss, Robert. I had read some of your previous updates and thought that things were looking better regarding his health but this stuff can be very unpredictable. I pray the good Lord gives you (and the rest of your family) strength and remember, your dad gets to do what...

    P3D v3 3DS Max rotation distortion

If you're still having trouble after trying both of these solutions, you may have to unlink everything in that assembly and rebuild the hierarchy after resetting XForm on all the parts. I've had something similar to this happen before and it was something to do with the hierarchy.

    XP11 and MSFS/P3D cross development

I really wish they would offer some official export tools for Max, or Blender at least. If the ESP-based scripts can be re-coded in Python to export from Blender, couldn't Laminar theoretically do this in the reverse order with either XPlane2Blender or their AC3D tools? (Besides the fact that...

FSX ATR 72-500 Project for FSX [Blender][First Timer]

That's what I like about PMDG's style of mapping for their aircraft. Little distortion, everything is aligned and at the same scale, and they're easy to paint on since everything is mapped "planar". Carenado on the other hand...UGGGGHHHHHHH.....

Some interesting new features coming with X-Plane 11

Wow...I'm impressed. PBR, dynamic reflections, volumetric fog, new sound engine, new autogen system, and a completely new UI. Seems like as big of an overhaul as one could expect from Laminar, especially considering Austin's ongoing legal situation. And it really looks to me like they're trying...

    FSXA Airbus A350 XWB

Can confirm. I hope that I never have to open a Challenger scene in Max ever again...(They're still cool in real life though. :rotfl:) Take it easy on yourself F747fly, don't pull any neurons over this project. Otherwise you might end up in developer rehab and take longer to recover.
