• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I want to so bad... heh heh..

I believe there was a thread on this at some point, but I wonder if it would be possible to push FS helicopter flight dynamics into super/hypersonic territory. That would be an interesting way to fly a saucer. ;)

Does any have tips for modeling cockpit windows ?

The way I learned to make cockpit windows is kind of a hybrid between the aforementioned techniques and the method that "MrFaosFX" showed me. Basically, I create cross section spline shapes for the nose in the front view that closely match a reference drawing or photo. Then I create and tweak 3D...

    NexGen Simulations ERJ-145LR/XR

I'm with both of you on that one... [insert vomiting smiley animation here] Skinner, your modeling looks great. Keep in mind though that managing such high poly mesh can be a real pain in the backside and mapping it can be even more cumbersome. Although I do see a good opportunity to bake...

    FSXA Mapping techniques

I've never had any luck with the Pelt Mapping tool...The closest I've come to getting a fuselage all perfectly laid out in one piece is by breaking off the nose and tail sections, using Relax to flatten out most of the center fuselage, then doing the same for the other sections and welding them...

3 Years and 500,000 polys later...

Reminds me of a nightmarish physics problem that I had to do a couple of weeks ago...A car is going around a banked turn inclined at 12 degrees with a radius of 60 feet and a static friction coefficient of 0.4, and given that, you had to find the maximum speed that the car could go around that...

3 Years and 500,000 polys later...

Wow...500,000 polys. It's a nightmare pushing around half of that amount on my Challenger. You definitely have more patience than I do when it comes to all the little parts like the inner workings of those landing gear...that's insane. It would be nice to see some isolated interior shots too.

    FSXA Default CRJ-700 VC rework

I wish you luck...I can never get high resolution textures to look good on low poly models. But you might even be able to use MCX to bring the VC into Max or Blender and bake some realistic lighting. Without using photos, it's just very hard to make hand-painted 4096 maps look realistic on...

    FS Design Studio

I'm not sure how much time you've already invested into Gmax, but personally I would have chosen Blender as a starting point. The Gmax community is pretty much dead (besides the people on here who still use it) but Blender has so many more features that make modeling with it more intuitive, and...

    FSX Virtual Cockpit Windows

If you've already made an exterior model, you can invert the window polys and use that as glass. I would imagine that Blender has a render to texture feature like Max does that can project the reflection of an interior on the glass, so that would probably be the easiest method. Just make sure...

    FSXA Airbus A350 XWB

220 Samples?? I've never noticed a difference beyond 128, and 64 is what I normally use. (32 if I'm in a rush.)

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

What are you talking about? ...I think you're right Gman, it's probably time this old thread gets locked. tjsdn1375, This forum is for developers to talk about technical things, get advice from other more seasoned developers, and show off their hard work...hence the title "FS DEVELOPER". I'm...

    P3D v2 Bombardier Challenger 605

Thank you Capt_X and Gman for explaining the situation to this guy. I was going to just ignore the question since it has been answered about 658,000 times within this very thread. (Well, kind of answered, I'm not sure if "when it's done" qualifies as a specific time frame, but whatever.)

To all you Max Renderers...Ever had this issue?

Thanks for the reply, UnitedExpress. I haven't messed around with IRay too much since most resources on the internet and in Max's documentation relate to MR or Scanline. I'll try it out and see if the results are any better.

To all you Max Renderers...Ever had this issue?

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere, so I figured that someone around has rendering experience with very small scale models (as FS cockpits must be to export correctly). The problem I'm having involves Final Gather smearing away all of the details in my model and leaving an...

Cool little technique that I discovered for painting panel lines/rivets

I'll have to try that out. I can never get that rainbow effect on glass to look realistic... Paul, I will post some before and after pictures when I get home later.

Cool little technique that I discovered for painting panel lines/rivets

I'm not sure if anyone else here already practices this, but I stumbled across a way to automatically make panel lines and rivets look more realistic, and it literally takes less than 10 seconds in Photoshop. What I did was: Created a mask for whatever layer the panel lines are on. Went to...

FS9 Crashes when i load my own model

Make sure your model.CFG is pointing to the right file as well. Should be: "[models] Normal=(model file name).MDL"

Is it possible to make the sounds louder in the salon, and quieter in the cabin?

To my knowledge, I don't think this is possible. Unfortunately I believe that sound cones in FSX can only be utilized in exterior sounds, but then again, I've never actually tried it on an interior. You can try copying the sound cone lines from a default aircraft's sound.CFG file and see if it...
