• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have a request of any of the 3DS Max users out there.

Fist I would like to ask does 3DS Max allow you to export a .x file. And If it does, could someone when they have some extra time on there hands make a simple test file for me.

Test file simple cube with a diffused texture and a simple bump map applied. I would need 2 .x files exported. The first on if you could apply the bump map with a setting of 30, and a second .x file with a bump setting of 70.

Thank you all very much. Kris!

I think that was by design, and had something to do with allowing the creation of the Gmax game pack. I don't remember the details.

Due to the restrictions that were place on MS:ACES by Discreet (the then owners of GMax), ACES had to develop a seamless exporter/compiler that used temporary memory for the intermediate files, then ensure that those memory areas were totally erased after the compiler had finished.

You see, when GMax was first introduced in FS2004, it only took a few months before a pair of programmers managed to "hack" the process and keep the intermediate .x and .xanim files. Discreet was not amused and refused to renew the license MS:ACES had for FS2004. It took a lot of convincing (and money!) for Discreet to grant a license for FSX.

Hi Everyone!

Thank you very much for all of the replies!

I have found the information that I was looking for. It was in the SDK, I just looked over it and did not see it.

I will now have the information to apply the changes to the Blender2FSX tool-set!

Thanks, Kris
