• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE 0.45 won't initialise

OK I understand. The runway lights should be accessible very soon

Hi Jon,

Sorry to be so long replying to your question. I still haven't got ADE to initialise, but I have a better idea (hopefully) of what the issue might be.

I now have 0.47 unzipped in a new, virgin folder and the problem reoccurs.

It turns out my error is slightly different to the one that started this thread. Mine broadly says that it cannot start SimConnect. This rings a bell from me trying to install FSX's own Object Placement Tool. I don't have FSX (with SP) installed in its default location, but instead on a second hard drive. However, the SDK (with SP) IS installed in the default location on the primary hard drive. For the object placement tool I had to use the absolute location rather than the relative location in my dll.xml. I was wondering if something similar is happening with my ADE? Does ADE assume FSX is in the default location... or am I off the scent??!!

cheers

Andy

Check the paths in the ADE settings.ini, there should be paths to BGLComp and FSX. As far as I know, ADE uses no settings in dll.xml.

George

That's correct George but it does look for simconnect.dll and I do not control how that search is done. It is part of the way that the simconnect.dlls work. Also ADE needs the version of simconnect from January 2007. You should have two simconnect.dll files present - I cover where in another post here

There is another point. ADE 0.47 does not ship with a dll called Microsoft.Simconnect.dll. It seems that most installs don't need it but recently someone needed it in the ADE Folder. It is now in the latest download of 0.47 so it might be worth checking that it is in your ADE 0.47 folder. If not then download 0.47 again and see if that helps.

Problem solved

Dear Jon,

Sorry for the slow response. I got ADE working just fine by copying the Microsoft.Simconnect.dll from my download of SDE and placing it inside my new ADE folder. This may help others who are posting on different threads.

cheers

OK good that it is now working. It is a mystery why some installs seem to need that dll file and others don't
