• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE 2020 Project File in ADE 178

Hello there,
in ADE 2020 i can perfect load MSFS 2020 Airports in an project File. Is there any way to load or convert first this .ad20 File to ADE Version 178? That was perfect for me so i can create my missing AFCAD File (on the newest Airport Files) with ADE 178.
It was great when it works.

Start with the Airport XML file from the 2020 project. It's located at:

<drive>:\MSFS\ADE2020_Alpha_21\F20\<Airport ICAO code>\PackageSources\data

Import the XML file into ADE 1.78 from the File/Create Project from XML. If that doesn't work, check back here. You will lose any background images from the 2020 project and some models may show up as missing.

Thank you Jay,
but it doesnt work. Every Line on the xml File would be declared at an error.
Sorry for my bad English.

You need to use a text editor to remove any offending lines from the 2020 XML file until it imports properly. What you are seeing are errors caused by new features added by MSFS 2020. If you don't feel comfortable editing XML, then there are really no other options.

Thanks Jay,
have you any hint for me to identify the new features? When this are the only way i can going, so i will do that. We said in german: in den sauren Apfel beissen. in that acidid Apple i must bite.

The problem with reverse engineering airport files is that later versions contain elements not present in the earlier one. So they are not recognised. Either the decompiler fails to recognise an element or at the other end of the process the compiler gets something it does not recognise and generates error messages. In this case IsOnTIn is an element from FS2020 which is not in earlier sim versions and the compiler spits it out.

Reverse engineering is generally more of a problem than starting from scratch

PS: The OP may also wish to upgrade to the last 1.79x version of ADE for FS2Kx: :pushpin:
There is no version in the ADE 1X versions which will read 2020 files ADE for these is in the alpha series 2020

Thanks for that clarification. Jon. :)

I thought it best to encourage the OP to update to the last version of ADE 1.79x purely for the additional benefits it provides working with FS2Kx projects, beyond those already provided by ADE version 1.78.

Indeed; the OP seems likely to end up doing manual XML editing (perhaps semi-automatic if he learns what needs to changed between MSFS and FS2Kx XML using Find-and-Replace functions in a XML editor like NotePad++).

Good to see you watching over the ongoing use of ADE here. ;-)
