FS2004 ADE9x with fs2004?

Hi, this is my first post and I have had a problem with using fs9 wit ade9x. I am used to creating scenery for fsx and have been doing it for a while so I am no stranger to scenery design. But what I am a stranger to is making it work with fs9. I have ran the Environment checker and found that all the tabs under the FS9 area which are supposed to say the directory and version of fs9 are filled in red and instead of saying the directory and version of fs9 they just say 'n/a'. I have also ran the Registry tool and that didn't work. So now I am in a bit of a sticky situation. Also whilst reading through some posts on this site, 'ScruffyDuck' said that there was a global.ini file in the main ADE folder. Once again I searched and had no luck with finding the file I was looking for. But I did however finder something called Global (not sure if it's .ini) whilst doing a file search in the file explorer. I opened it to find a load of text which I had no clue about and didn't seem to say anything about ADE or FSX. Can someone please help?

In Windows Explorer. select Tools->Folder Options->View". Check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Hi and welcome

So my first question has to be - do you have FS9 installed on the same computer as ADE. What version of ADE are you using? I think you are referring to the fix that can be applied in the global.ini file to force ADE to assume the existence of different versions of FS. This is a last ditch solution and masks the fact that if you have a version of the sim installed that ADE cannot find then you have a registry issue.

What happens when you start ADE - does it offer choices of FS version or start directly in FSX or show a red version selector. We could do with a bit more information in order to help you best.

-Do you have FS9 installed on the same computer as ADE? Yes
-What version of ADE are you using? ADE9x (want to use it for fs9) and I also have ADE 1.6 (for fsx)
-What happens when you start ADE? It doesn't give me a selection and goes straight to FSX.
When I open the ADE Environment Checker The FSX directory is there but the fs9 one is not. I think the best way for me to explain this is to show you a screenshot.
I have FSX and FS9 installed both on the same computer. Since installing FS2004 I have reinstalled fsx due to terrain.cfg problems. These problems have nothing to do with ADE. I don't know if that reinstall of fsx may have effected the fs9 directory. As for Golf-HotelDelta's advice, that didn't work either. I hope the screenshot can give you some more info.

OK and have you tried using the Set FS9 Path button the the Environment Checker? When you say you ran the Registry Tool - which one?

Yes I have tried that button and set the directory but nothing happens. I have ran the TweakFS registry tool and the flight1 registry repair tool. Neither of them had any effect. Would i have to reinstall fs9 to make it recognise the fs9 directory? Just an idea.

Where is FS9 installed? What folder?

I just remembered that a few months ago when i switched back to fs9 i needed the fs9 disk 4 to play it but i had lost the disk so i installed another fs9.exe file which would mean that i could play fs9 without having to put the cd in everytime. Could this have had an effect on ADE9X with fs2004?

The effect could be that the registry entry is not correct or missing - this would affect ADE but also any other program that wanted to check this entry. Do you know how to open your registry? Run a program called regedit.exe from you command line or search for it like this:

look for this entry: Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\9.0 or Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\flight simulator\9.0 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

ScreenShot00039.png

is the EXE Path pointing to your FS9 installation or somewhere else? or is there no registry entry for FS9?

under Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator it has three three flight sims: 10.0, 9.0, 9.1. when i select 9.0 it gives me an error saying "9.0 can't be opened.
An error is preventing this key from being opened.
Details: System cannot find the file specified."
I have a feeling it is something to do with the new .exe I downloaded that lets me start fs9 without a disk.

OK - you should run a registry cleaner first otherwise you might still get problems

It's all done now. Everything fixed and working fine. I now get the selection of either fsx or fs9. Just reinstalled. The problem seemed to be the downloaded fs9.exe file I got from the internet. Thanks for the help guys. Best regards,
RB

No worries. I am pleased you have it working OK now

For information purposes the FS9.exe cracked CD file which is 540 KB in size does not make any changes to the registry and ADE works with both the CD version of FS.exe and the cracked version.

It has been reported in the past that when the FS9.1 patch is added to FS9.0 the cracked FS9.1 version causes CTD problems (memory issues) with FS9.exe.

Also, when you uninstall FSX it often messes up the registry for FS9, even if you reinstall FSX.

ok cool. I didn't know that. it could have been uninstalling fsx that messed it up. the man thing is that it's working now.
