• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi All,

Looks like all issues I had with 0.0.49 have been fixed, no problems or crashes here. Flip seems to work fine for me, both lines and polys. 1.60.4891 seems to work fine, as far as GP issues are concerned. Will continue testing later.

Thanks,

It's a disaster for me :(

Using my custom textures I need to cover the odd marks at the end:

So, with difficulty, I defined a polygon:

Ignoring the size of the position marks, entered the editor and poitioned the poly in relation to the texture:

As soon as I clicked on "OK", the computer locked and I needed a cold reboot

Repeated twice with the same result.

So, it appears that I cannot create GP polygons.

George, I tried cretaing polys in the general shape of yours, both large and small, but do not have a problem. I tried resizing, flipping and dragging the poly - all without difficulty.

Did the poly actually get updated on the ADE display?

If so, try editing/compiling it.

If the poly does show on the ADE display, please send me the file.

Can you not create any polys/lines or just this particular one?

Don

No, clicking on OK caused the whole system to freeze (twice).

I've just repeated the edit and it worked fine

Initial lines:

Poly in ADE before acceptance:

Initial edit:

Exited and compiled ok, but I thought I should resize such that the texture was inside the polygon. Resized and compiled fine.

Result:

It has done what was required.

It needs a small tweak as does the custom texture which obviously doesn't extend across the 512 width of the texture.

I am baffled. As I said, earlier It locked up twice when I tried the same excercise.

BTW. I'm sorry but I no longer need to flip lines ;) The same objective can be obtained by drawing the line in the inverse direction :D

All's well that ends well.

Are you sure the problem was in the GP Editor? I don't mean to pass aspersions on ADE but, when you click OK, the editor simply converts the existing data into a string format and sends it off to ADE.

Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing for sure with a simple "freeze" where the problem lies.

Jon, can you think of anything in ADE message-receipt-from-the-GP-editor code that could cause an endless loop?

BTW. I'm sorry but I no longer need to flip lines The same objective can be obtained by drawing the line in the inverse direction
You couldn't have figured that out yesterday??? In any case, it did highlight a more fundamental problem, both with editing and flip, and the editor is now a better product because of it.

Don

ADE does not loop through the data so I am not sure how it could hang but I will check the code.

It's a complete mystery Jon.

However, I left the machine running whilst having dinner, and, when I returned it had rebooted itself WTF.

I think I need to keep an eye on it.

Don,

Could you please look at gp_Patterns.bmp ?

I have used it as the basis for my single lines and there appears to be a definite misalignment where it repeats:

I think this is compounded when I use a mirrored copy as a new pattern.

As I said earlier, I am hopeless at creating textures so am am using yours and copy/pasting areas.

Please ignore the lower two textures, I know these are misaligned.

Is this what we've come down to, George?

The attached file (for your Textures folder), will offer some improvement. Getting an exact match will require a good deal of experimentation (since it's a slanted line and, therefore, shading is involved) - but, you're welcome to try.

As real as it gets :p

There was no file attached, but I perservered and produced this:

Oops! It is now.

Just a thought re your slant parking. You don't need to add those two small, complex polys to chop of the bits at the end. All you need do is drag the top or bottom vertices of the line segment into a parallelogram so that it only covers the portion you want.

Hi Don,

Came up with a problem in the GP Texture Editor. I added a line style definition called Hold-Short to my horizontal copy of your PatternedLine 40F texture (called PatternedLine TRG), and it deleted the Hold-Short line style definition in your 40F file. If there can only be one entry in the Lines_Def file with a given name, perhaps it should warn you that name is already taken?

Hope this helps,

Unfortunately, the rectangle is much longer than the texture so I have no idea where the ends are.

Hi,

Another one. I had previously textured a 2 segment line with your default 40F texture (Double Red Line, I think). I then proceeded to Edit the line, and tried to change the texture to my horizontal TRG texture. I immediately got this ADE crash:

"System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: InvalidArgument=Value of '7' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'.
Parameter name: SelectedIndex
at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.set_SelectedIndex(Int32 value)"

Then I just tried to change the line style (still using the 40F texture) and I got:

"System.OverflowException: Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.
at ADE_GroundPolys.GPEditor.CalcScrollBars()
at ADE_GroundPolys.GPEditor.InitializeVertices()"

I find this is repeatable, but only when you Save the file, quit ADE, restart ADE, load the saved file, and then attempt to edit the line.

Hope this helps,

Hi Don, hi Jon,

For what it is worth, and I cannot check this as I am on my father in laws' computer (on windows 8:(), I feel that some of the problems evoked could be solved by you two coordinating your efforts a bit more.
Don is trying to solve some problems that may be easier to solve in ADE and vice versa.
As soon as I am back on my own computer (hopefully monday night) I can give you some examples.
Sorry but that is all I can say at the moment but I think that maybe you realized that yourselves as well?

Thanks for all the extra's you are making for us,

Yours,

Roby

Not sure what they might be Roby but I look forward to some examples.

Tom, I'll have a look at those issues. I can see no reason why you shouldn't be able to use the same pattern name on two textures - other than I haven't provided for it (I will).

Unfortunately, the rectangle is much longer than the texture so I have no idea where the ends are.
George, it seems to me you are into some "trial and error" either way, to ensure you get what you want.

Thanks for your concern, Roby. What you are not privy to is the behind-the-scenes communication between Jon and I.

Editing an un-dimensioned line.

I have gradually increased the width by 2 metres (multiple times) in the editor but the FSX display doesn't change

Do I need to re-select the textures or should changing the width with the same texture work?

You and your brilliant ideas!%@#$&

I'll have a look.

Don

I've proved it is a bug :p

If all one does in the editor is change the width, the changed width value is returned to ADE, but it is not used in creating the asm. One also needs to re-select the texture
