• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Adelaide (YPAD)

Hi all,

I finally have some to show on the development of Adelaide for MSFS. With the new sim, everything is moving much faster. Satellite imagery is no longer an issue which is great. That being said, I don't then see Adelaide being released for P3D any time soon if at all. MSFS seems to be the future of flight simulation and a lot of the methods are no longer cross compatible. P3D is also a real headache to develop with.

To emphasise how much I want to get this released, I am proposing releasing this now as freeware/donationware given the time it has been since announcement. This would be essentially a pre-alpha release with only critical buildings and details in place. For example, static jetways for the release and updates may see dynamic jetways etc. That way, the scenery can be constantly re-iterated and updated for as long as needed without delaying release any longer for those who have waited so long. I realise I will keep updating/changing the scenery probably indefinitely (Being my home airport) so this could be the only way to see a release.

MSFS2020 is amazing and I love using it :)

I honnestly think that is a Great idea, that way people will be able to give you their opinions, finds bugs/issues etc (as if they were Testers)

Incredible, amazing work! YPAD is my home away from home airport, as I travel there once or twice every year to visit family in Adelaide, and mate, this looks just like the real thing. Great work. I think it would be amazing if you release it now, and I would be happy give substantial notes on development along with just using it a lot.

Cheers,

Thanks Marc, I'm glad you're enjoying MSFS and Sharmes, its great to hear you find it resembles Adelaide accurately. Sometimes when you stare at the same building for a long time you start to wonder!

I'm working on getting the main buildings complete, which right now is terminal and control tower. I've been working on the entrance of the terminal over the past few days and once these are complete, then its on to ground polygon completion - or at least a preliminary version. A lot of this is just making the models compatible with MSFS so I don't foresee that taking forever.

I couldn't agree more, I spent 14 years trying to complete USA wide photoscenery from NAIP imagery, with full autogen, nightlights and watermaps and about 1/2 way across the country it just choked, 256x256 pixel wide AGN files were to blame, even on an SSD at 5GB/s write speed, it can't handle it, as the SSD slows down to KB/s read. I wrote a lot of game design docs for FSW and it seems most of what I put into them have been implemented into MSFS, I'm so thankful for Asobo reading those docs and bringing them into MSFS.

The speed with which we can develop stuff now is unbelievable, I'm loving the terraform function. Looking at your shots of YPAD are really exciting and your work is amazing, I've only been there a couple of times to visit relatives, but it's one of the great neglected airports in the sim.

Looking fantastic. It's always great to see my old stomping ground come to life. It's even better to hear it's coming to MSFS.

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying MSFS. I hope I can give some life to YPAD in the sim.
There has been work done on the rear of the terminal, some work on converting pre-existing models to msfs, an update to the tower, jetways and night lighting is in early development.
Here are some more pics of the development: (Some are low res as the screenshots crop out some of the development windows open on the screen)

Thanks Marc! Yes Hollywood it is truly amazing how quick it is to get things implemented into the sim. Its light-years ahead of anything else even if it is a bit buggy atm.

Here is an update on the tower:

I've been having difficulty getting the metallic texture showing up in the sim so if anyone knows a work around that'd be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to find anyone else having the same problem. I tried opening it in MCX and got the same results even though in the material editor it shows the texture loaded.

I can probably help you with that... Let me show you what I have for my buildings, I have a video showing how to implement it, but I have to edit it together. If you want reflection make sure you add both metal and metal detail.

Metal basically looks flat in sim (no matter what setting you have) unless you add the metal detail layer as well.

EDIT: I added my material which I'm using a duplicate of for the metal detail as well...

Note: R=White for Glass, G=Black for Glass, B=White for Glass <- I'll explain these in further detail in a video

Note also that these extra GLTF layers won't currently get loaded into MCX, will need to let Arno know about it

I'm going to say that I am a little disappointed this isn't coming to p3d. Given the fact that developers such as PMDG won't be hopping on the MSFS bandwagon for at least 12 months means a lot of simmers are staying with P3D and thus missing out on great YPAD scenery. Was such a long wait and now to find out it's not being made for P3D......

Worked like a charm! Thanks for the tip:

And Ben, I can only say I'm sorry that you're disappointed.

Quick note, I also discovered today that the effect where it's green in the Windows_Metal.png, you can also just do 50% gray on all 3 channels and it looks nicer on regular surfaces.

That is going amazing there :D, yet it seems that there is a lot of works ahead :) all my Support, can't wait to Fly to Australia in MSFS :D

Really nice.
Are you using ground polys or aprons for your ground texturing?
Just a traditional ground poly from Blender then importing it as a projected mesh. You can use the Gizmo tool to accurately place it with the coords as you would any other flight sim.

Any Chance we can have a download link? Even in its current state, this looks fantastic. I tried to redo all the taxiways at Adelaide but had limited success!

BTDsims, Its weekend, FEED US !!! (With those sexi Pics :P) just kidding, take your time :) you do an amazing work :)
