• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have just posted the initial beta release of AFLT Version 3 to my website http://stuff4fs.com. It may be downloaded by navigating to the User Applications/Airfield Lighting Toolbox (AFLT) page of my website and clicking on the Development Release menu item.

Version 3 supports the use of LOD-variable light elements offering much greater visible ranges than previously available with either BGL_LIGHTs (FS9 only) or effects. (LOD-variable lights are brightly-textured simple 3-plane objects whose size increases as LOD decreases. The smallest size is displayed close up and gradually increases to maximum size at LOD1 in 10% increments. The minimum and maximum sizes and visible range for each light element is user-specifiable.)

This release will be of primary interest to users of P3Dv4 and has been extensively tested with that version. Currently, LOD-variable lights are only available for P3D v3/4. They will be introduced for other FlightSim versions in future releases.

AFLT Version 3 will read and process Version 2 .INI files and array definitions. So, those of you who are currently using AFLT Version 2 need only recompile your object library to generate LOD-variable lights. But, please, observe the caution in the readme in the Version 3 archive about overwriting your Version 2 folder.

Version 3 also eliminates the need for special extraction and installation of positioning data for simobjects.

Please give version 3 a try.

AFLT3, the most powerful and easiest to use version of AFLT, is almost ready for general release. All its features are fully operation with one tiny exception. That is, obstruction lights on buildings don't yet work in P3D. That shortcoming will be rectified shortly. An extensively revised user manual is included.

The hopefully-final beta release is available from http://stuff4fs. Navigate to User Applications/ Airfield Lights Toolbox (AFLT) and click the Development Release menu item.

For those who missed the initial announcement, further details on AFLT3 are available here.

Thanks to those who participated in the beta.

The issue mentioned in yesterday's post has been resolved and a new Development Release 3.0.04 posted to http://stuff4fs. I have also posted the revised user manual for those who may wish to explore the new capabilities in more detail. They're both available by navigating to the User Applications/AFLT page.

Barring discovery of any issues over the next week or so, this will become the initial General Release.

I am pleased to announce the general release of AFLT version 3. Release 3.1.00 is available from http://stuff4fs.com. Navigate to the Airfield Lighting Toolbox (AFLT) page and click the Latest General Release menu item.

AFLT 3 offers numerous improvements to its predecessor. In particular, it is fully compatible with P3Dv4, P3D object library creation is simplified and for light source with Pv4 you have a choice of either effects (inverse mipmaps) or LOD-variable sized 3-plane objects, both offering visible range far beyond what would otherwise be possible.

AFLT version 3 will accept data from Version 2 - albeit with a few self-explanatory warning messages prompting you to make certain updates - most notably to color names. So, if you have created lighting with a release of AFLT Version 2, you only have to install AFLT3 and regenerate your object libraries.

Generating and placing airfield lights in Flightsim has never been easier!

Should you wish clarifications or to report issues, please open a new thread in the AFLT support forum.

Enjoy,
Don
