• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Are you actually playing FS?

Just curious. Mostly targeted at addon developers. Are you guys actually playing with FS or do you spend most of your spare time just working on your addon?

As for me, i think since i started to play around with SimConnect and some other stuff in the SDK i haven't been flying a single time "without a purpose" (testing).

And a happy new year to everyone!

Nope - can't remember the last time I 'played' with it :)

Sometimes I may try to fly, but about 5 minutes in to the cruise I minimize FS and start up Sbuilder. :D

No, last time I flew was while demonstrating, and the longest flight during 2006 was made to record a film (showing my own scenery...).

:D

HeHe. I fly with the VUSN and have done most of the carriers and Naval Air Stations scenery they have. I just flew yesterday to one of the carriers (complete with a Marshall Controller and Air Boss). Boy was I rusty! Must've cost a bundle to repair the gouges in the flight deck and the collapsed landing gear.

"PLAY with FS?" <gasp><shudder> Blasphemer! One does not "play with FS" - it is an obsession! as developers, you KNOW you do not have time for anything else, nor any other thought!

(at least, until some suitable distraction comes by......:) )

Hi,

I *FLY* :D FS sometimes, though mainly it is flying a new aircraft (whether it is my own, or testing someone elses). When I'm not flying, I'm designing.

Best regards,
Robin.

We fly Rally and Precision Flying competitions. This is done at the airfield and we have the same briefing and route as the real pilots. Flightsim is also used to train the new Rally Flying crews.

Most of the time, we are designing scenery.

When I get on a design kick, I may not do a legitimate flight for a long time.

I did a legit flight the other day, but it was...hmm...to test an airport I was building. But I didn't slew into position, I really flew from an outlying airport into mine...at least...

Does slewing around to test some scenery features also count as playing :D. I guess the answer is no does, I hardly do anything else than testing tools, techniques and sceneries.

The only flying I did recently was that I tried some of the short missions yesterday. But actually that was the first time I had flown longer than 5 minutes in FsX since I got.

As FS development is my full-time job, I cannot say that I "play with FS" ever, except during those times when I need a break from development, or simply decide to slack off for a few hours.

Invariably though, even then I find "purpose" to my "playing" because I'm testing out one or another of my company's creations during the flight! :coffee:

Flying vs developing?

No time for either.

All I do is read the threads on this forum and try to understand what they are about. :o

Uhm.... playing, flying? Not really. I'm spending most of my time in the sim slewing around in my scenery or testing aircraft paintings. I own FS2004 since the end of 2003. In this time I only made one flight including preperation. Started in Munich and flew to JFK. Okay, I made a few tng's but I think this won't count.... As I wrote: Mainly testing repaints and slewing around in Frankfurt.

I find with each new version, I tend to fly quite a bit at first. I flew a Boston to Los Angeles trip in fs9 in the baron...religiously saving after each leg. Always planning fuel, etc. (saving religiously can be more or less of a hassle, depending on which religion).

I'm going thru that with fsx also. I find more pleasure flying than designing right now. Last week I flew Boeing field to Coer-d'laine in the Cessna skyhawk.

With other versions, I've gotten the flying out of my system and then I convert back to designing. That may happen again. For now, not much development, just staying on top of the forums, and trying a trick or two here and there.

Best,
Bob

Heh.. I can't remember the last time properly flew on FS. Mostly I just fly around my sceneries and try out new aircraft.

Oh i do that too when i buy a new version of FS. This time i entered a Grumman, took off at Munich, Germany and flew to somewhere in Peru, saving after each 100-200nm leg (some legs were longer, Scottland -> Iceland -> Greenland -> Canada). It took a few weeks actually to get there.

Then one day i installed the SDK ...

WIP: Model for my addon's GUI in the attachments ... only sad thing is that i have a way better idea now after spending 4 days on this (modelled and rendered in Blender 3D)

I thought I was the only one who spent all his time designing and never flying...guess I'm in good company. Since I got FSX, though, I've started to do a little more flying. Most of that has been missions...it's great being able to just sit down and fly, without spending all that time diddling around setting up a flight and figuring out something interesting to do.

I fly just to see what ooh-aahs others have made. Also with Vatsim, although time is so limited between work, family and coding. Still a sr student controller in Vatsim and that went out the door the moment family grew...

But yes, I fly, and my 3 year old is now singing the FSX default musak, such a natural, I am a proud father...
