• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Blender Aircraft always shiny

Hi,

I'm making my first aircraft in Blender and whatever I do when I load the aircraft model in P3d v4.4 it is always shiny and I cant really see any detail of the landing gear. I have tried various combinations of nodes with shaders such mixing diffuse and glossy with layer weight in blender render and cycles and shadeless, but nothing in sim seems to change. I have FSX/P3d Material Params selected.

That is usually due to a Specular texture or a Specular setting in the material. Darken the color or lower the strength.

Thank you Tom. I reduced the specular intensity to 0.3, but the model still looks like it is in block colour. It does not show the same level of detail in sim that is visible in Blender, especially the landing gear detail.

start to apply texture on it.
shading in 3d modeling software is not same and it better than in Sim

For textures, do you mean to add textures by using UV unwrapping or by adding material textures by using nodes?

Yes; at some point in your project you need to think the UV unwrapping proccess in order to have your aircraft's texture set AKA "skins" (I don't know the details for Blender).

Still working on trying to understand UV unwrapping for the textures. Tried unwrapping with seams the fuselage section to see if I can get that part to work before adding the whole aircraft.

convert texture file into dds extension, dds file need to flip texture (please read SDK documentation)

Carrying on with my experimental build and now need to learn how to make better textures and better UV maps on future models.

learn how create an AO (Ambient Occlusion) texture to create preset shadow for FSX/P3D
