• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender not applying image as Material

Good evening,
After spending a few hours creating a 3d model in a CAD program, I exported it as an .stl file.
Then I imported it into blender and saw that the entire mesh is made out of polygons. Not a big deal I thought.
I went on to applying the textures. Now there is one texture I need to have as an image. It is 1024x1024px large and in the png format.
When I apply it trough the MSFS Material Params, the selected area just becomes gray. That is of course not intended. On other models it works perfectly.
How do I apply the image correctly and is there a methode of tiling images (as a material)?
I will include the .blend file and the texture file (Note: The texture is not really finished yet, but I want to see how it looks on the object).
Thank you!

Have you checked your UV mapping? You need to unwrap your model before the image is applied correctly

I have now unwrapped the model and reassigned the texture, but it is still not working correctly.
Did that by pressing U and then selecting unwrap.

This will not work unless you defined the seams where the unwrapping function "Cuts" the model. You could try hitting U and then "smart UV Project" but even then you will have to adjust the UV islands by hand. If the texture only applies to the roof, I d suggest selecting only the roof faces, going to top View and then Press U and select "project from view" and then resize the UV island in the UV editor to match your image. If you want the texture to be tiled / repeated, you have to scale the UV island to be larger than the image boundaries.

Btw your models geometry is not optimal. Those long triangles will most likely create lighting artifacts in MSFS because the gltf format MSFS uses doesn't "like" long faces.

Thank you for the reply above. I will try that out tomorrow. Is there an easy way to fix the triangles´?

you could try adding loop cuts but I don´t know if they will apply correctly with this geometry. Or maybe selt all faces and use "subdivide" to make them smaller.
