• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can I fix an aircraft model whose main wheels don't turn?

If you think the animation mapping change is a structural improvement, let me know what you did so I can include it in future MCX releases.

OK that's a simple one, I just added the following to the [FS2004_FSX] section of the animation_mapping.ini file (with a tab as separator)

tailhook tailhook_pct

and to the [FSX_FS2004] section:

tailhook_pct tailhook

Support to export the FS2004 MDL format has been in MCX for only half a year or so. So you are right that it was not designed from the start, but during the development there was extensive testing and for most models it worked quite good. Of course there is always some tweaking a user has to do, because there is a lot of variation in how models are made.
I guess that explains a lot!

Thanks, sounds like a good idea to add that tailhook mapping by default. I'll do that.

The big elevator deflection in the preview is probably coming from the trimtab_elevator animation, not from the actual elevator animation. I would have to compare it with some other models to see if there is anything weird in that animation for this model.

Of course: the issue is the incidence of the tailplane (horizontal stabilizer) itself, which is set using the elevator trim control.

It also looks like one of the flap components has been detached from where it ought to be, and is now underneath the fuselage near the main wheel wells.

I had a look at the trimtab_elevator animation and tried to use the trimtab_elevator_key_pct animation instead. But in the preview image that gives still the same result with the deflection. In the simulator it works fine. Unfortunatley I can't find a defualt FSX plane that also has a trimtab_elevator animation to compare if there is something differnet in this animation as it was read from the MDL file. If anybody knows a good reference model I can check what is different with the conversion MCX made.

All flaps look normal to me when I check the model I exported in the sim.

I have also added the tailhook animation to the animation mapping file, so in the next development release that will be included by default.
