• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,

As you might know my priorities for which features or bugs to work on do change sometimes. So let me try something new, I will regularly post an update of the items that are currently on top of my todo list. So that you know what is coming and what might take a little longer :).

This is the current list:

  1. Improve correction for curved earth, fix some bugs and make sure it works for animated objects
  2. Add display of fresnel map to the preview
  3. Update material editor to make it more flexible and easier to use
  4. Improve reading and exporting of aircraft (animations)

But as always this list is not set in stone. By posting new suggestions and ideas you can always influence it :D.

With the fourth option one could fix the ai aricraft to correct those lights and another issues... could be.
Anyway we are not asking you a perfect tool for fsx :D

I like that list, Arno. I see that implementing new features is more fun to you than finding annoying bugs, so a mix of both sounds good.

One urgent bug would be my priority though: the newest dev release has a bug with attachpoints if you want to import x files. Compiling the mdl with bglcomp and importing the MDL into MCX shows the attachpoints, but importing the x file doesn't. Looks like a bug.

It would be the perfect tool after all those in the list have been done.
Thanks Arno.

Hi Thorsten,

I think I forgot to implement those parts of the x file. I'll put it on the todo list.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

Does MCX export all visibility tags? I have some engine fan animations that seem not to work when exported from MCX to FSX.

Great idea about that list ;)

I m just adding, or reminding rather, a suggestion.

That is the ability to go through the materials list of whole libraries, as opposed to invidual MDL files.

Hi Arno!

Since 2-3 development release (can not track back), the fs9 mdl export behaves little bit strange. It rotates the object by 90 degrees around the Y axis.

Hi,

Does MCX export all visibility tags? I have some engine fan animations that seem not to work when exported from MCX to FSX.

I don't think these are supported yet, since they are aircraft specific. I am still learning more about the aircraft specific parts of the MDL file. So I expect these will be lost now during conversion. I'll put it on the list.

Hi,

At the moment ModelConverterX can't compare materials at all. With the new material editor I will add that function. Once that is in, doing it on library level should not be a big change.

I can't reproduce it here, I tried to export some FS2004 objects and they seem fine. Do you see the problem also when you import them again in ModelConverterX or only in FS itself?

Hmmm Strange. Yesterday it did it. Imported the FSX mdl to MCX and converted to FS9 mdl and it rotated by 90 degrees when I imported the fs9 model. Today it is not doing that on the same file......

I see! So that's what I've been struggling for days! But for some odd reason when I don't import/export my mdl file through MCX I don't get any animation working. It must be due to my modeldef files then. :o

Hi Thorsten,

I have added reading the attachpoints from the X file now. Can you check if it also works for you? It will be in the next development release (probably online in about 1 hour).

Is the dev release online? I downloaded a new one just now but the attach points are still missing in the x file. After I compile it with xtomdl they're there.

Looks like I do have the current version, but the attachpoints are still missing in my x file in MCX.

Hi Arno

Will we also see by any chance an exclude object option in the batch converter and single wizard convertion?

Cheers!
MK

Hi MK,

Can you explain what you mean with that? Do you mean an option to write an exclude for other objects while you place an object with the placement wizard?
