• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Düsseldorf Airport

Can you send a shot of your runway skidmarks ?

I actually haven't shown any skidmarks yet...
Though what I've seen you asking in other threads, "What Photoshop brush is best to be used?" I think it's best to make custom brushes, as the linearity between the centre of a brush and the edge of the brush with the default brushes are not fit for skid marks...

I didnt understood correctly about the brush can you explain in PM about the brush and if you know what brushes and software are taxi2gate used for ataturk?? Thnaks, best regrads, Teo!

Well here's the basics of how I would do it as seen in MCX, though for the real thing I'll take more time and effort ofcourse

A small update to let all of you know how things are and what I'm working on.

I've been doing quite some work on the ground poly and have also been working on getting the patched parts on the apron, those of you familiar with this airport might remember what the apron looks like and it is quite some work.
Also I've been doing some work on the textures of both the ground and the buildings, new stuff to show in a little while...
I've also been searching for imagery to be used on the ground. As it turns out the Bundesland Nordrhein-Westfalen offers geographic data through their Bunderministerium für Geographischendaten (sorry if I spelled any of that wrong), though they do not disclose any price. All they mention is a contact for those interested in purchasing an area. This brings us to the awkward part of me not wanting to spend money on a freeware project. So either I leave the whole idea of adding photorealism to the ground poly or I've got to make it payware somehow.
More on that later, I'll have to findout what it would cost me, in the meantime (to showcase all of it) I'll be using an SBuilderX image instead, though obviously I cannot release anything containing that image.

Cheers,
F747fly

I say do it right the first time. If that means charging for your work, in order to get the ground imagery you want, so be it. Based on what I am seeing so far, I don't think you will have any problems finding people to buy this scenery.

Well I guess that's a fair point. I'll have to contact the Ministerium in order to get a realistic idea of what the upfront costs are before I can actually decide if it'll be worth it, though I don't think the Ministerium will have ridicules prices for an area of a few, I estimated somewhat like 9, square kilometres of imagery as a commercial company would have.
For the mean time there still is lots of thing to do, though I am once again quite exited about stuff, in the hope it'll look good in sim.

Here are some shots of what the airport looks like at this moment, nothing new but just to show what it looks like.

That starts to look very nice. Once again great modelling from your side!

F747Fly, your Dusseldorf looks so good :D,
about getting imagery, well, you can ask for CrowFunding, or you can do another way (free but verry verry long) you put the sat image on Shotoshop, and you repaint on it (and so you can remove artifacts, add shadows etc), once finished, you delete the sat image (the one you used as reference) it's called HandCrafted Photoreal I guess :) then, this is only a suggestion :)

Thanks! I'll be taking a good look at my options and inform you on it at a later point in time.
For now I've got something that get's DUS through those warm sweaty summer days (in Germany you ask? yes well right about now haha)

Also, those who are subscribed to, found it in some kiosk or by accident purchased Airliner World this month (June 2016), take a look at the front page ;) Yes it's Düsseldorf alright!

Handcrafting photoreal sounds like an awful lot of work, without very good results. I can't imagine it will even look good. For just a few blocks it would be boring and endless job, I wouldn't even start such a thing ;)

Photoreal is not really a necessity for airports, just for surroundings. You could consider grass polys for the airport itself. I would finish all the airport buildings, ground poly, nightlighting etc. before starting with the surroundings. When you get to that point you can look back and see if the scenery has the quality to become payware. If so, consider buying aerial photos, if not, then release it as freeware/donationware. But that's just my two cents...

I wouldn't bother with the aerial photos for now, and since this is such an early WIP, deciding that it would be payware or freeware is way too early.

Well I don't actually know how long it'll take to get the imagery, so I thought I might already bring it up.
Anyway I've worked a bit on both the train station and the airport city business park:

haha in due time Marc, in due time ;)

Also, I'm not sure if I've shown this one yet, the on airport-sight (I suppose if anyone wonders) Senf-Fabrik (a Mustard factory...)
I believe it also serves as a conservation-products factory but I'm not sure how I should actually translate it...
And there's the simplistic parking houses located at the airport, this is Parkhaus P5
