• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Eliminate Autogen P3D4

Okay. So, I am still touching up my pet project in P3D 4, my home regional KSEG, Penn Valley, Selinsgrove, PA. In the default class layer west of the airport is a residential area where none exists in real life. That area west of runway 35/17 is an open field. So far I have placed exclusion rectangles but I don't know if that is correct. How would I remove the houses and just leave an open field?

Thanks

Hi again:

If you are referring to:

* the P3D default land class (faux) scenery textures with autogen to the West of KSEG RWY-35 start location:

...or:

* the equivalent area in custom photo-real land class with autogen between Quarry and Old Colony Roads

...load KSEG in ADE 1.79x, click the Green 'Add Polygon' icon on the toolbar, draw a Polygon around the area, and select "Exclude Autogen".

FYI: You can load the KMZ file inside the ZIP attached below, in Google Earth to verify where you are describing.

https://www.google.com/earth/versions/download-thank-you/?usagestats=1

Excluding land class textures and replacing them with either different default- or custom photo-real- land class textures is more involved.

Do you now use just the default land class, or that provided by a "mix" of the scenery packages previously cited here: ? :scratchch

Just between the runway and the creek. I wish ADE showed road and water vectors. I will have to use map and grid size guesstimation.

Actually there is a way to derive coordinates for your exclude polygon vertices in ADE just by slewing your A/C in a live P3D session.

You must have the proper version of FSUIPC installed so ADE can 'Connect' with P3D.

https://fsuipc.simflight.com/beta/FSUIPC6.zip

If you tell us what mix of scenery you are using, it will determine what land class texture exclude / replace methods you could use in ADE. :pushpin:

Are you using a background image in your project?

I was able to eliminate everything I wanted using Mask Map Class. Thanks for your help.
I wouldn't even begin to know how to use a background image.
See, Im a near computer dummy who knows just enough to make planes fly, install addons, and place stuff on a grid map and position them by trial and error. Sometimes I use a forum for help and people are way over my head. Basically I am a Noob and will likely to remain so going on 59 years.
I have another problem. It is with my Bendigo 74N project. The trees along route 425 in the way of the taxiway and what. Can't erase them. If it will help, here is what I have installed. It is
P3Dv4
FTX
LC NA
BASE
TREES
BUILDINGS
UTX NA for roads, moutains, and water bodies only. Everything else turned off.
So far I tried
Poly, mask map class and flatten mask map. Isn't working.
I had this problem under my prior windows install and I can't remember how I fixed it. I had a boot error blue screen and ended up reinstalling windows 10. I saved my airports but my polys did not save.
Any ideas?. Please use laymen terms. I am a hopeless noob. I need to learn what everything means and even the manual assumes a basic proficiency.
Thanks

Hi GaryR:

At the time you began using FSX and/or P3D, multiple add-ons were required for a realistic FS scenery experience.

The mix of scenery add-ons cited above will require a lot of study to be able to customize your FSX / P3D scenery.

Based on your stated current level of aptitude and interest, IMHO, that mix of add-ons would be your worst nightmare.

Seriously... you would have to learn lots of obscure details to work with OrbX' imposed extensive FS customization. :alert:

Out-of-the-box, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (aka "MSFS") generally offers more realistic scenery than FSX / P3D.

IMHO, MSFS 2020 would be the better way to achieve a more satisfactory overall flight simulation experience.

The MSFS SDK allows customization (live within the sim) to make scenery even more realistic than it is 'out-of-the-box'.

ADE offers a familiar GUI with special accommodations for MSFS 2020, and allows 2-way editing via ADE and MSFS.

You can still use 3rd party add-ons and/or make custom hangars and buildings etc. for your favorite scenery locations.

MSFS is already able to run on an existing computer that now runs P3D, as well- if not better- than P3D itself does.

This month, MSFS 'Sim Update 10' (free) enables a ~3X increase of FPS, thus it may now run even on older computers.

Yes. That looks an aweful lot like what I customized. I got rid of the trees at the other end adjacent to the road before. I just have to remember what I used to do it. I am interested someday in MSFS 2020 but I have a lot invested in P3D. I also have my A2A aircraft which, once one gets used to every other sim aircraft feels like a game. Perhaps when A2A does their Skylane or Bonanza. They are soon releasing their Commanche 250 but I am one of the few that doesnt care as much for it as the Skylane or the Bonanza. At the moment I am holding out for X-Plane 12. I bought version 11 for 20 USD on summer Steam sale and honestly I really like it. The handling of AI aircraft and ATC implementation are the only things I would really improve. The stock 3d airports look a lot closer to real world versions than any in the MS family did other than MSFS. I think the main reason though I haven't gone MSFS is that it is such a huge MS ecosystem. I prefer being totally independant of a network like that. I have as much shut off from MS as I can and still fly.
Exclusion Zones. Are they able to supress scenery items? I am going to try Flatten Mask Exclude Autogen and see how that goes. Perhaps it is Orbx Trees on the Bendigo tiles. I will uninstall them if all else fails as experiment.

[EDITED]

Let us remember that we must first create a FTX Central Scenery Library Insertion Point to leave room at the top for our files:

FYI: I no longer maintain an installation of my OrbX scenery purchased via the FlightSim Store after they 'gutted' that entity.

However, IIRC from descriptions in Misc. FS forums, OrbX HD Trees are used as Autogen under their original FSX / P3D GUIDs, and have merely had a swap of texture sets.

If they use 'default' FS GUIDs, that 'may' mean they could be excluded by one of the options available in a Exclusion Rectangle.

14.12.1 Creating an Exclusion Rectangle - Page 273 / 309

But, AFAIK, it may also merit testing via ADE to use a Exclusion Polygon with an attribute of Exclude Autogen.

NOTE: A Exclusion Polygon is not to be confused with a Exclude Rectangle.

FYI: Airport Background / Boundary vector polygons can be assigned single attributes, referenced by their GUID:

[EDITED]

Additionally, if by any chance the trees have been placed not as Autogen objects, but instead as scenery library objects, there may some additional considerations required to successfully exclude them ...as discussed here:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/unable-to-delete-airport-library-objects.445748/

Also, if a layer of custom photo-real land class textures is annotated with trees:

https://www.avsim.com/files/oldlib/...&sig=35045a457ef86cd2a069832bcb907f89d5e29045

...and is located underneath FTX Global LC_NA, one may have "pop-through" trees showing up:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/annotator-question-fsx.438054/

This thread deals with OrbX scenery Autogen in P3Dv3, but may still work:

[END_EDIT]

BTW: For the same reason complexities and undocumented interactions of that mix of add-ons would be your worst nightmare, a would-be helper may find supporting what you are trying to do, to also be their worst nightmare.

Be aware OrbX may oppose attempts to modify scenery using- or 'placing'- any of their scenery objects via their GUIDs, thus AFAIK, you will not be allowed to publicly distribute, scenery you make which utilizes any aspect of the OrbX scenery assets / GUIDs.

If you are only making scenery for your own private purposes, that IMHO, is your own option to explore ...in private.

However, I consider it unlikely that you will see an abundance of support here for endeavors using that mix of scenery add-ons.

Not because it cannot be sorted out and done for private purposes, but because it is impractical and time-consuming to do so.

Perhaps you may see more folks here who are ready / willing / able to help with your endeavors after you begin using MSFS. ;)

Good Luck with your endeavors.

It is just mind boggling. I did this before with this airport under the same addons. And I was able to clear the ground where needed for my kseg project.
