• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Fading textures on groundpoly

Does anyone know what's going on here? I've exported the groundpoly from 3dsmax as an .x file with the P3Dv2 SDK, compiled with XtoMDL (from someone here on the forums) using P3Dv1 SDK. I imported the .mdl into MCX and used the GP Wizard to export to FSX. At first I thought it was because of a flattening issue around the airport (I had a similar problem a few years ago in FS9) so I used ADEX to create a big enought flatten area around the airport but the problem still persists. Thank you guys in advance!

Ok so it seems like I fixed it by converting the bmp's to dds's. Now the GP show up mostly fine except for some parts where the FSX default ground bleeds through(image 1). Depends on height and viewing angles. Any ideas as to why this happens? Also I get white lines (top right corner for example) between the individual polys. Any way to fix that? (I have tried to redo the UV mapping, which didn't help it just makes my texture look funny in places where it intersects :( see image 2)

I think you need to make sure that your ground is perfectly flat. Using TcalX you can get the information of the elevation in the airport. Sometimes there are some area that is higher than the rest. This can produce this effect to your ground poly as well.

Ok, THIS is really weird. The screenshots above we're taken in FSX Steam edition. I thought I'd use it as a dev platform since I have no addons installed so it loads quicker. I just put the GP into my personal FSX (boxed) installation with FTX Global and the GP shows up fine! No bleeding through of the ground and no white lines! Does this mean my scenery will be compatible with FSX but not with FSX:SE? or is it because of FTX Global?

Also one other question. When putting in the altitute into the Ground polygon wizard in MCX, do I put it in feet or in Meters? I put it in feet, but I noticed TCalcX shows the AD elev. in meters :/

MCX's Ground Polygon Wizard is looking for the altitude to be in meters. You can see what that is by looking at the vertex points in your flatten in ADE with the units/altitude set to meters.
