• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Fokker D.21 fighter for FSX

Yes, that is sort of what I had in mind. That you would use multiple "triggers" like AN, MR or VT. But maybe combining them into one is also a good idea, let me think about it. Usually I guess the same modeldef.xml definition is used for the animation and the other conditions of one part.

The XANIM file is only made by ModelConverterX. That file is FSX specific, so Blender won't know about it. It will store the animations differently, just inside the X file. Like FS2004 MakeMDL also did.

MakeMDL assigns animations, mouserects and visibilities based on the presence of the respective section (<Mouse_rect>, <Animation>, <Visible_in_range>) in the XML code for the part.

Why not simply resurrect that?

If Blender can store and export to x file some xml code for a model part that would also work. Not sure how easy that is to do in blender though. That's why we used this work around with the names.

That's a completely different export format to XML files, so that is something different. We would need that some part information/properties are stored in the x file, but it seems that doesn't work. I guess we will stick with the other approach.

And now back on topic again :), lets discuss this nice plane again.

Whoa, back to work:p

Well, created some texturing on the tailwheel, which looks quite nice in my opinion.

In fact, my texturing consist of 'colouring by myself' and 'taking small fractions from photographs and reshaping'.

BTW, does anyone know: if I cut fractions of 60x100 px from a photo from the internet, deform it for use, should I have to ask permission from the autor? Or note it's source?

Greetz!

Well, I started texturing the colour scheme (after some struggles with the pilot, which I decided to leave for some time). The brown, green and sand colours were standard in the Dutch Luchtvaartafdeeling (Aviation Department) of the Army. Sadly, the colour codes are not exactly known, but people have analyzed paint they found on wrecks. Results led to colours like these. Brown was the primary colour.

Anyway, this is my try. Hope you like it, excuse me, I'm not a texturing artist:o

Isn't it nice when the plane get's some colour? :)

Looks really good and great progress!

There has been D.21's in the Finnish airforce as well. One is displayed at the Airforce Museum in Tikkakoski. Yesterday I came across a picture I made at the last visit. Not showing much detail, but I can send it, if you want.

Thanks Kai! It's taking more shape now;) About the Finnish D21, I'd like to create a FS version for that as well. Finnish D21s were slightly different though. Anyway, I'd like t see your picture! Recreating this plane is all about photographs, photographs, photographs...

The little fokker is coming on nicely :D

Thank you:)

If you have IL-2, you can also use its rendition of the D.XXI as reference.

I don't have IL-2, but I know the differences. There are 'drops' on the cowling, different airplane lights configuration and thicker landing gear struts. Also the rudder is a bit different. And in winter, of course, skids instead of wheels.

Creating the D.21 Wasp is a lot more difficult. I'd have to create a different engine, and a nice, extended interior because of the glass back.

Well, I added some more texturing detail, like lights, and added the insignia. These were different from the usual Dutch markings, the red-white-blue-orange cocards (as still in use today), because they were changed on October 1, 1939. This change was to avoid German fighters to see the Dutch markings as RAF roundels. So the orange triangles are called 'neutrality-markins'.

Anyway, the triangle lower tip on the left aft fuselage seems a bit displaced. I guess this is caused by Blender, I'll need to find this out. It only appears to be in the render, so...

In short: I like its appearance:cool:

G'd evening!

Did a short try in FSX as well tonight, worked out quite nice. I'm satisfied with the result!:)

Hi,

Looks nice indeed.

The pilot's head seems to poke through the canopy. :D

Good progress regardlessly!

Yeah, but in the earlier picture, you can see that it isn't:) I'll provide more pictures later.
