• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Guide to current Blender to MSFS Workflow?

I see the guide 4 here, and have installed it, but
  1. the last image shows an “MSFS Extensions” choice - I don’t have that -

blender_6_exporting
blender_6_exporting1013×529 70.9 KB

  1. ... and there are no further instructions.
I tried making an object (and saved it to my community folder) but can’t find it.
Any help appreciated.
thanks!

Most likely you have installed the plugin in the wrong way
Repeat your step carefully

Alternatively,
I have set up a standalone Blender portable version including the Asobo plug-in already configured

Simply unzip anywhere and run Blender

Also please note that you need a model
.xml in order to make your .gltf being recognised and compiled
Therefore
Instead of using the File/Export/glTF
I rather use the Multi Exporter available in the N panel (which btw is the signature of a correctly installed plug-in)

Basic use here (including plugin install, my video is somewhat outdated but really no big changes)

Thanks!
Ok, I have a simple blender icosohedron & I was able to export the .xml, .bin, and .gltf. But... I'm not sure where to put them!

I tried moving them into my community folder, but the model doesn't show up in Objects.

Is there a video that follows the one you've linked above, or further instructions?

cheers

Try this:
Thanks - but... no idea what I should be looking for in the manuals to troubleshoot this as I haven't created scenery for MSFS before.
Looking for tutorials & guides. My first task is to ensure I'm able to get the export from Blender/import to MSFS working properly.

You need to create a Project
Add to the Project a ModelLib AssetGroup
And a Scenery BGL AssetGroup to place the object

I suggest doing this using the in game wizards

Then copy your model files in the modellib folder, compile it (click Build All in the project editor) and eventually placing it using the Scenery editor

The following in the most recent tutorial I have using both

You are so welcome! The SDK (software development kit) includes everything necessary to be able to create scenery in MSFS and is so much more thorough, including tutorials and sample projects, than that one section that was linked.

Great, thanks again. I'll take a look at this today.

FWIW I haven't had any issues creating projects and adding scenery - I just thought I'd be creating a set of files I could drop into my Community folder & have them recognized when I'm in the SDK.

Then you simply want to make a project that only has a ModelLib. After it's compiled, and placed in Community, the objects will be available in the sim.

Here's a simple ModelLib project example attached.
You can access the library after the compiled package is copied to Community:
