• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Guys

I choose to work with FS9 due to all my addons, a while ago (yes a long time ago:laughing:) I discovered a tutorial on modifying coastlines which used a european city as the example. I am wanting to fix this problem (see pic) in my FS9 but I need the turorial to tell me how to do it. I now how to create the coastline but cant remeber the rest.

I used the tutorial previously but have had many reinstalls since then and have lost it.:(

Cheers

Please ignore my previous post, I got confused with Ground 2K. However if there is a suitable tute on how to modify coastlines that would be great, as I am finding that even if I use a poly exclude, it excludes all coastlines within the LOD13 square......:(

Cheers

That's how it works. You have to rebuild the whole tile.

There is a shortcut though.

Start a new project, or you could use the same one as the exclude poly, and File>Append...>VTP BGL then load the default HL9nnnn0.bgl file that contains your coastline.

This is easier if you are connected to the sim while doing this.

Now you want to draw a selection rectangle around the LOD13 tile, then Edit>Invert Selection, then Delete.

Now you have the beginnings of a new file with only that tile in it. You can then modify or delete the coastlines as required.

This will fix the coastline, you will still have to deal with the water poly.

cheers,
Lane

Thanks for the reply Lane, however you lost me at "shortcut"

I have subsequently fixed my problem thru trial and error however one thing still eludes me: To create a VTP coastline and have it marry up with the exisiting one. I am finding that if the VTP line overhangs the next LOD13 square it removes the coastline in that square.........

So I would like to know a simple way of joining the coastline I create to the existing one. :yikes:

Cheers

Andrew

Hello:

When editing default FS9 vector scenery content files, IMHO one should perform all edits using a "COPY" of the:

* HL9xxxxx.bgl ("Hydro-Line" = shore poly-line / textured) file(s)

...and:

* HPxxxxx.bgl ("Hydro-Poly" = water body / 'water class' textured polygon) file(s)

...and:

FLxxxxx.bgl ("Flatten" = water body flatten polygon) file(s)

...which respectively define local shoreline and (flattened) water bodies for your project area of interest.

When working within the SBuilder for FS9 workspace, it may also be helpful to:

* display the LOD-13 Grid overlay

* utilize "Snap to LOD-21 Grid" (aka "QMID-23") to align vector poly-line / polygon vertices to "Area Points" inside LOD-13 quads

* utilize a geo-referenced background image captured from FS9 itself using Richard Ludowise's "CellGrid" utility as illustrated in a tutorial by Jeffrey Stanyer:

Creating an Island with SBuilder V1.06a

http://www.ptsim.com/downloads/islandtutorial.pdf

http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=cellgrid2004a.zip&CatID=root&Go=Search

Note: SBuilder for FS9 is currently at version 2.05, but the above 'V106a' tutorial still works in that version. ;)

Additionally one can use a screen capture of FS9 land class scenery ...as rendered via Jim Keir's LWMViewer 2.x:

FYI: Additional considerations may apply to editing / substituting / restoring default FS9 files:

Here's some additional learning resources which may prove to be informative when working with SBuilder for FS9:

Hope this helps ! :)
