• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How do you install the aiport to FSX?

Hi,

Just downloaded ADE, and modified an airport, and complied it to a bgl file. In 7.1.11 of the manual, it states "You can place the compiled file where you like." So I placed it into a new folder I created, within the Addon Scenery folder.

9.3.3 states "The final step is to install the compiled .bgl file(s) to FS9/FSX." Unfortunately it does not actually say how to install the bgl file. I thought there might be an "Install Airport" button, like there is a "Compile Airport" one. Maybe it's so obvious how to, that it's thought not necessary to explain :p

I've had a look on this forum, and I've read where it seems that the bgl file cannot in fact be placed anywhere, but should be placed in Addon Scenery / scenery folder, and ensure that Addon Scenery is ticked in the Scenery Library (it is). So I did that, and the library rebuilt, but I still cannot see my new runway lighting.

It's not too clear to me what to do, could anyone advise, please. Thanks. :)

Hi and welcome

When you compile an airport set the folder to compile to as Addon Scenery\scenery. If you made a new folder then you would need to make it active. To keep things simple just compile to Addon Scenery\scenery. Make sure that FSX is not running when you do this.

For a more complete answer:

1. It can indeed be placed "anywhere", but there are strict rules about how that "anywhere" is arranged.

2. If you place it into the Addon Scenery/scenery folder, this will display the airport IF the Addon Scenery layer is active in the Scenery Library (box is checked).

3. If placed "anywhere" (i.e. a new folder inside the Addon Scenery folder, etc.), then:

a. There must be a scenery folder created INSIDE that new folder.
b. The BGL files must be placed into that scenery sub-folder.
c. You must use Add Area in the Scenery Library and browse to the new folder, and add it as a new scenery layer. It must also be checked as Active.

Neil

thank you for your contribution!
I tells me, that this section of the Manual has to be re-written in some manner, which is more clear for newcomers.
You see, adding new scenery (and adding a new airport or parts of it) to an existing scenery (airport) is not a ADE-specific issue. That makes it a standard scenery design task for many of us and we did not bother to explain it in proper details in the Manual.

Please do not hesitate to ask again, if the answers to your question here are not totally satisfying to you.

Helli
