• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

It's very slow indeed. I'm typing this from my phone, so I can't check the server now. But we'll look into it soon.

Hi,

I had a quick look and did a reboot of the server to be sure. But the wiki is still not working fine.

I'm not behind my normal PC now, so I don't have all password etc with me now. Tonight I'll check if there is anything wrong with the database of the wiki.

Hi,

I did some more testing on the server and I optimized the wiki databases, but it is still running slow. I don't understand what is going on, but we'll continue to check with the admin team. Hopefully we can find the cause of this soon.

Hi Arno

Had intended posting previously,
but unexpectedly been away/offline recently.

Just concentrating on the wiki's homepage -

Every forum call to the wiki,
results in -
- 2 off 301 redirects.
- followed by a connection error.

Above is due to 2 entirely unrelated/seperate issues.

In order of event occurrence -
- Secondary Issue - Forum URL 301 redirects.
- Primary Issue - An underlying network OR IIS OR wiki misconfiguration issue.

To clarify -
These issues are CONNECTION related,
and NOT server page-generation related.

Once correctly connected,
actual page-generation times are within reasonably acceptable bounds.

From per page's HTML commented 'debug info',
page generation times -
- previously were ~8 seconds, (whilst problem was occurring),
- currently are ~24 seconds.

- Secondary - Connection error -

Relatively minor issue, & easily rectified.

Once corrected,
do not expect to see any major improvement,
due to that still outstanding Primary issue.

The forum's menubar link to the wiki
is currently incorrectly set as -
Code:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki

As such,
that causes 2 entirely unnescessary 301 redirects.

1 - Redirects initially to -
Code:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/

2 - Redirects subsequently to -
Code:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Recommend setting the forum's menubar link to the wiki, to be -
Code:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

- Primary - Underlying Issue -

An underlying network OR IIS OR wiki misconfiguration issue.

Requires ADMIN level access investigation.

Test Mechanisms -

There's some 'historical results'/'re-runnable tests' at - webpagetest.org -
Code:
http://www.webpagetest.org/testlog.php?days=7&filter=www.fsdeveloper.com%2Fwiki&all=on

favicon.ico -

An entirely seperate & relatively minor issue.

fsdeveloper's favicon.ico has gone AWOL,
and causes a minor loading hiccup
for EVERY access attempt to fsdeveloper.com.

Hi Folks

Arno -
Currently any attempt to edit the wiki
results in -

Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data.

Please try again. If it still does not work, try logging out and logging back in.

i.e.
No attempted changes were saved.

Also N.B. -
Logging out via that link,
apparently doesn't actually log you out,
as any subsequent page load, indicates you are still logged in.

I was going to post a thread about this last week. I am finding it almost impossible to even browse the wiki!
It takes a couple of minutes (I could time it exactly if you like) for it to load up.
Something very very wrong!

EDIT
Enterred the wiki, selected the FSX KML tutorial at 9.02.15 am. Page finally loaded 1 minute later at 9.03.10 am

That's a longgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg time!

Just to let y'all know that we are working on this - it is, however, taking longer than we hoped. The Wiki may actually go off line for a while. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your analysis, that's useful information. We will take a look at it.

Not sure what can have changed a week ago or so to cause this though, we didn't change any configuration that I'm aware of.....

Hi all,

Things seem to work fast again now. I'll ask Lefteris what he did over night. I also fixed some issues with generating the thumbnails, as I saw errors about that.

Hi Folks

Arno -
Just for info -
Had a brief period of 500 Server errors.
Occurred whilst opening a set of wiki pages into new tabs.

Thanks for the recent fix to the wiki.

By the way, I have a couple of uploaded images that can be deleted. How does one do that?

I believe there is a delete button on the image page. You will get to that page if you click on the image from a wiki page where it is used.
