• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

The default LSGG airport in FSX shows rwy 05/23 whereas when opened in ADE it shows as rwy04/22. I compiled ans saved the airport but in fsx it still shows as 05/23

Any idea what is wrong with it.

That was the magnetic heading of the runway when FSX was developed. The data would not have been updated since then
Roy

I was under the impression all rwys in FSX are fixed on true heading.
So how can it be updated to show the correct 04/22

Zia

Runways have a true heading which is the physical orientation. Runway numbers are based on magnetic heading not true heading. This over time the runway number can and is changed

Understood, but how to change it so the number appear correctly in fsx. Currently when I open the the rwy list at LSGG in fsx it is 05/23 whereas when I open the stock airport in ADE and pull the rwy list it says 04/22.

Strange. There is one thing though. I see you have the original FSX. I'm using FSX:SE.
Maybe someone with an original FSX can step in and have a look.

I have FSX SP2 and it is 5/23. When I open the stock airport in ADE it also says 5/23.

Perhaps he has an addon airport?

You can call the runway anything you like in ADE, and as long as you save it and present it to the sim via Addon Scenery, it will display as whatever you've called it. This is runway 22 (or 23!) of the stock LSGG renamed to 32 as shown in ADE and in the sim (FSX).

Thats exactly the issue....I opened the stock airport renamed rwy to 04/22 saved it and compiled it. I can see it in the add on scenery folder as LSGG_adx.ad4 and .bgl file. Rebuilding the scenery data in FSX and still it shows as 05/23 there

Hmm. Why is the ad4 file in Addon Scenery? It should be in the Projects folder in ADE. Once you’ve compiled the airfield, you need to put the .bgl file inside a Scenery folder - it can simply be the Scenery folder inside Addon Scenery, or it can be a specific folder for that airfield. But it will never show unless it is in one of those folders AND it has been activated in Settings\add files.

But taking it out of there would not make a difference to the problem itself.....would it?

.ADE files are a specific format used by ADE for its project files. the Sim does not read or understand them. They are irrelevant to the sim and just clutter up.

As per comments above make sure that there is no other bgl file containing this airport that loads after your edited one.
Tools > File Priority Analyzer should show all the bgl files containing that airport

Is this happening for any other airport?

It has not happened to any other airport till now. I ran the tool as you said and as the attached file shows there is another bgl file on a higher layer which probably explains why it still shows the same. Am I correct in assuming that this file needs to be edited and compiled to show the changes as needed?

I would find that file and rename it temporarily so that it does not get loaded - change the extension to something like .dnu.

Now try again and see if your edited version works.

Generally you should not alter third party addon bgl files.

Ok ...so i changed the extension...opened LSGG in ADE and recompiled....checked with analyser and the only entry remaining there is mine. Started fsx and rebuilt scenery database and the result is the same.....04/22 in ADE and 05/23 in fsx
The disabled file is part of Ultimate terrain installation for Europe and fsx/scenery/world/scenery folder has hundreds of bgl file with different airport names of Europe.

I'm not familiar with the Ultimate Terrain addon, though a quick perusal of its commercial blurb shows that it alters quite a few airfields. I suspect it may be the cause of your particular issue, and it might be worth raising it on the Flight 1 support forum. Before you do that, and in addition to the File Priority Analyser process that Jon recommended, I'd do a search for any and all LSGG files in your installation and remove any not associated with your modified stock airfield. Don't delete them - either rename the file extension to .off or move the files to a folder that FSX won't read so that you can restore them.
