• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I did not see any suggestion to start a new thread about the same problem. To me, you begin to look like one of those people who performs the same action while expecting different results.
Doug is very versed, skilled and patient. If he can not help, your problem is beyond a solution. It appears he has identified your issue to be with user privileges. This is a consequence of increased security on the part of Windows and performing administrative actions to compensate does not alter your machine settings. If you are not willing to make relevant changes to allow simulator development, you might want to explore why you are developing.

Hi,

Thanks you Doug and everyonewho has tried to help with this problem.

But can you explain the procedure required to set up “run as administrator” for MCX.

I have never come across it before and always assumed I was running

everything as an administrator.

If it can’t be done on because of my machine set up then maybe I will call it a day.

Thanks again

DEEGE

I suggest you maybe have come across this before, every time you install a program Windows asks for verification, am I right? Sometimes Windows asks for verification even when you run programs, maybe? Arno's software does not ask for those permissions, but it is required to access other programs like compilers and to do things like write new software, which MCX does.
The action that Doug and several others is trying to have you perform involves setting the program to "run as administrator" in the properties dialog box. You can access it by right clicking on the program and highlighting properties to select the properties window. Select the Compatibility tab, locate and click the "run this program as an administrator" check box and click apply.

If you read the error log, it tells you precisely what the problem is and it has nothing to do with permissions.

Hi,

Please the error log, it provides all the information you need (so don't start to suggest other possible solutions that only make things more complicated).

XtoMDL can't find a DLL file of DirectX. Which means that Direct 9.0c is not installed correctly on the computer. So install or update that version of DirectX and XtoMDL will work fine.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who helped with this problem.

I have reinstalled direct X

MCX now works fine.

Thanks again

DEEGE

And I told him to post his question here so Arno could help him, which he did. So please don't be so hard on the guy?

I'm more hard on people who start about admin rights and other unrelated things when the error message is so clear.

I apologize for commenting on the discussion without exploring the issue. To me it seemed like Doug was "on it" and the OP was bouncing around starting multiple threads for the same problem. I was aware admin rights are not required for my software to function, but I also believe there should be a procedure where possible fixes should be eliminated, both for this specific issue and archived solutions. It is fine that admin rights are discounted and those of us helping should indeed understand all aspects, which includes error messages. I was probably expecting DEEGE to apply admin rights and report it did not solve the problem. Hopefully people will search before posting questions and hopefully these threads will provide the solution, but to me this one seems a little muddy in that regard.
