• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 Moving files from FSX

Is there a set of instructions you can point me to that describes the procedure for using and/or converting existing FSX ADE files for P3D.

Many thanks,

Ken

Fist stop is just copy them over and see how they work. Second stop is to make sure you have the P3D SDK that matches your P3D version installed and open ADE for P3D. Then load the project and recompile it to P3D.

Well John ... easier said than done!

I've moved to a new machine and have added ADE to it but I'm confused by the options and may have messed it up.

I was working from a Scruffyduck download page dated today and installed ver 120, then update 137.05 and the program is telling me to install 145 which I can't find.

Am I on the right page ... I've lost touch these past few months and maybe way out of date or things have really changed as I'm not seeing the old program or the P3D options.

Can I trouble you to get me straightened out in loading up correctly.

Ken

Lane has answered. I am not sure what page you accessed but it must be an old orphan.

Good morning and a special hello to my geographical cellmate Lane,

Boy did I get a wrong number on the downloads ... I think the heat wave has cooked what's left of my thinking cap! See pic ... I feel like Alec Guinness in Bridge on the River Kwai but it's good for haying ...

I'll try again on the scruffyduck.org which seems to be offering 165 and I guess 166 is a patch which will be obvious.

Help much appreciated.

Ken

Howya doing in Seattle Lane ... watering restrictions for sure ... 30 new wildfires every day in BC!!!

Regret to say that the move is not going too well although I'm now on the latest version.

BTW Here's where I found the ancient versions http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/ade/Downloads.html

1) In the FSX section I have transferred my existing projects and that seems to be in working order.

2) For P3D I assumed I should add the same projects but there doesn't seem to be a path for that which made me believe they both use the same ADE project folder?

3) When I tried to light up an airport in P3D version it wasn't found so I pathed to FSX Projects and loaded the airport. Then I tried to compile it for P3D and got the error msg regarding the "unavailable file" and went to the explanation and cure but it didn't help the problem. My UAC was already turned off but I have both P3D (86x) and ADE installed on the C\ drive and FSX on a partitioned D\ drive ... which I'm assuming is causing the problem notwithstanding the UAC is off etc.

So what to do ... re-install ADE on the D\ file doesn't seem like a helpful option and the only other move that comes to my mind is re-installing both (P3d also) to the D\ drive .... ughhh!

You thoughts if I may,

Ken

Still no luck compiling in P3D but I doubt that it's a security problem now that I've laid LM open to the world.

Instead I suspect an FSUIPC error in FSX may be related to the problem as FSUIPC causes a Fatal Error if you choose "Yes" and if you choose "No" then it's not running as an Addon program ... and doesn't that break the ADE link to the FSX SDK which would refuse the compile?

I've sent the error to Pete but he's away until July 22nd so I'm hung up till that's resolved.

That is not an error, it is just a prompt. Click on "Yes" and it will be ok.

...FSUIPC...it's not running... and doesn't that break the ADE link to the FSX SDK which would refuse the compile?
FSUIPC has nothing to do with ADE compiling.

FSUIPC is only used to connect the sim with ADE, so you can see your location in the sim, on ADE's display.

Do you have the P3D SDK installed? And is it the same version as the P3D version you are running?

cheers,
Lane

Hi George ... for the record, on this computer clicking "yes" causes an immediate fatal error on loading. See https://www.dropbox.com/s/do0gha3edd2pite/FSUIPC fatal error.png?dl=0

OK Lane, I'm ready for an education:

1) P3D & its SDK are the same 2.5 version .... but

2) I thought I read in the original setup instructions that the FSX SDK was to be chosen for the P3D compiles and that's how I've got it setup which worries me as it makes the P3D SDK superfluous?

3) I get the same compile error suggesting the file I'm looking for is unavailable for the reasons mentioned ... I don't recall having this problem before with FSX being in the dreaded C\: Progs X86

Ken

I know you can use the P3D v1 SDK for FSX, I would think you would need the P3D SDK for 2.5.

I don't "do" P3D so maybe Jon will stop by and enlighten us.

What exactly is the message you get when you attempt to compile?

cheers,
Lane

Hi Lane,

Here's the error msg

Ken
Compile YKA to P3d.png
Compile YKA to P3d.png

Well that is user access control. As it says you have P3D installed in the default Program Files (x86) which has UAC on it to stop files being added or modified. We generally recommend not installing in that folder structure for this reason. You choices are:
  • Turn off UAC on that folder
  • Compile somewhere else like your DeskTop or Documents folder and copy the files across
  • You could try running ADE 'As Administrator' but that may not work
  • Or re-installed P3D in a folder that is not inside the UAC area.

If you have P3D v2.5 then you need to download and install the SDK specifically for that which can be gotten from the P3D downloads site

Thanks for popping in Jon,

I think I may have a more complicated problem that's causing the compile failure and let me clarify what I've done as a check:-

1) My UAC has been set to off prior to this issue ... I presume that "Never" means off ... see pic. Administrator initialization had no effect.

2) I loaded the P3d SDK at the same time as the .exe so I assume it's the same vintage i.e. 2.5

3) When I loaded ADE to this new computer, in the settings I set the compiler for P3d to the FSX SDK compiler as I believe the instructions indicated it was being used for P3D ... if that is wrong then we're not using P3d SDK in this case.

4) P3d program has been shared

5) When the compile button is activated, the "Compile Options" window shows it's going to compile into P3d "addon scenery/scenery" (but I don't see that file existing in P3d) and if I click the "open folder" below I get a blank window with an option to save my project?

My question is "does this all sound consistent with a failure to gain access to a file that doesn't seem to exist and by a compiler that belongs to a different program version i.e. FSX instead of P3D"?

Sorry this has become such a pain and I regret following P3D's install instructions into x86 but there it is. If everything turns out to be in order from your point of view in consideration of the above I'll have to re-install P3d into the D\ partition along with FSX.

Best,

I was going to mention that you may need to quit P3D before compiling, but the red Connect box suggests you had already done that.

Try compiling to the Desktop instead and see what happens then.

The airport compiled perfectly to the desktop ... so I guess that's the way it will be until I get up my courage to re-install P3D.

One more question ... I don't see an "Addon Scenery\Scenery" file path in P3d. Do I just go ahead and create it and if so is there any specific location for it?

Many thanks,

Ken

Hi,

This probably has nothing to do with P3D (and a reinstall would thus do nothing to fix that). You apparently still have permission problems when attempting to compile to the P3D folders, and that would need to be fixed (within Windows) before you can do that.
