Need help with Ramplight library

Hi Guys,

I was trying out Bill's ramplight library download and was able to get the ramp lights and street light objects to show correctly in my scenery having imported the .bgl library into ADE, however I was also under the impression I could also add the light splash underneath an existing stock lamp or apron light, however this does not appear. The 200ft and 400ft groundsplash objects appear in the Library Object Manager and are positioned on the apron in my scenery, but they don't show. I have set them to "NORMAL" for now.All the .dds files are copied to the scenery texture folder

May be I forgot something obvious or other steps???

Can someone literally "shed some light " on this? Excuse the pun!

thx
Mark

Hopefully Bill will come by and help - I have no idea :o

Yep!

FYI -I already concated Bill privately but didn't get an answer so far. Maybe he is on vacation or otherwise occupied.

Just interested if anyone else has tried this out???

thx
Mark

What elevation did you set them at? Perhaps they must be some height above the tarmac?

As you can clearly see from the screenshot, I did nothing "special" to have the 200 sq. ft. ramplight display at this intersection...

Hi,

Bill, thx for the info. This is what I suspected but still no luck unfortunately.

Here's a couple of screenshots to illustrate...

Also let me confirm, I have six "EDSG_" .dds files and one .psd file (I know this last file should not be required in the folder) in the Scenery/texture folder of my add-on airport.

Any ideas what else to look at??

Cheers
Mark

Hi Tom,

Yes am using FSX.

Can someone else try this out adding just the groundsplash to an existing airport?

Are there any other scenery settings in FSX that need to be specifically set for this to show?

thx
Mark

Try one of the FSX acceleration light poles that place light on the apron and see if it works.

If they work then Bill's light should work.

Do you have the ramplight library BGL file in an active scenery subfolder? Have you double checked that?

I would think so, since he stated that using one of the lights w/pole does work...

...it's only the light w/o the pole that's not working.

Hi Guys,

OK. Here's what I did.

I added, as per Jim's suggestion, a lightpole object big wash but this doesn't work. I was able to select the object in ADE and add to the scenery (see screenshot #1 - the middle object on the grass) but it does NOT appear in FSX (see screenshot #2). I assume this is because I do not have FSX Acceleration loaded.

Now, I went back to Bill's Ramp light library and added a single pole object near to the apron in ADE (see screenshot#1 - object dialog highlighted) and this displays just fine in FSX - see Screenshot2 behind the heli where the lightpole can be seen and then to the left the splash of light) . Screenshot 3 shows the same scenery with the viewpoint oriented towards where the groundsplash should be iluminating the apron.

Question: The groundsplash should work in FSX without Acceleration, right?

Tom - to answer your question, yes the add-on scenery is added to the FSX Library and it has priority #1. I also made sure that previous versions of my scenery are de-activated although resident in the library still.

Let me know what else I could try. I'm baffled too!

Cheers
Mark

It certainly works but I don't understand how it generates the wash-plane

Here it is placed on photographic textures of a village cricket pitch:

I do not have FSX Acceleration loaded.

You must have Acceleration which gives FSX 5 additional bgl's in the Global Scenery folder. The 5 additional bgl's all start with FSXP_xxxxxxxxx.bgl

Question: The groundsplash should work in FSX without Acceleration, right?

My Ramplight Library requires at least SP2, but since the splash works with the pole, that much at least seems to be working just fine.

I've no idea whatever why the 200 sq ft or 400 sq ft "splashes" won't work for you. They are the same files as the single light pole, but without the pole!

Hi Bill & team,

Yep! that's what's got me confused! I have SP2 loaded but no FSX Acceleration Pack. I assume you don't have this, right?

BTW - I checked my Global scenery folder and I don't have the FSXP .bgl's Jim mentioned below.

Is there any connection between this and the groundsplash not working? This is the only thing I can think of....

thx
Mark

Nope! I developed the Ramplight's under Acceleration, but I also have an SP2 only FSX set up so I can cross-check for compatibility.

As I said, if the "pole versions" work, but the "splash only" don't work at all, I haven't got the least idea why that might be.

Since the package includes the .gmax source files, have you tried loading one of them, deleting the pole, then compiling your own .mdl file?

Hi Bill,

Good suggestion. I will try this to see if this works. I'll need to install Gmax since this is a new FSX rig, but I had planned on doing that at some stage. The time has come!

Thx
Mark
